    Speedo question

I finally got my speedo pick-up cleaned out when I put a new water pump on and ran the boat today...It is the first tiime the speedo has worked since I bought the boat, but now instead of reading zero all the time, it pegs over 80 at WOT...I am running in 75-78 range at WOT, so I really need a 100 mph speedo and not the 80 mph speedo that Stratos put on it... The pick-up is in the nosecone of my Yamaha...Has anyone tried to constrict the speedo hose with an orifice of some kind and see if it helps to be more acurate...I thought about filling the pick-up hole with epoxy and then drilling a very small new hole, instead of the 1/16" hole it has now..

Damm speedos lie like hell. I just use the digital display on my gps fish finder to see my real speed.

I know it lies, and I use my GPS for the accurate speed, I just hated to have a non-working guage....Now I have a guage that still is non-working because instead of sitting on zero, it is just pegged on the other side when running now...

The only cure there is if you're wanting to go by the speedo, is turn the gps off.

It is not going to work correct, as you already know. I would not even think about changing the speedo guage out.

    Re: Speedo question (1niceStratos)

I guess that no one is figuring out that I don't want to go by the speedo, I use my gps, but I am just trying to get my speedo to be somewhat close to the GPS so I don't have an inoperable guage in the dash...I hear other guys say that thiers is reading within a few mph of the gps and mine is reading 10 mph + high and thought maybe someone would have a cure to try to adjust it a little so it would be closer...I guess I just need to take it out and put a flasher in the hole and be done with it...

    Russ,

First off....please don't take this the wrong way. I think that everyone understands that you don't want to go by it, but I don't think you're figuring out that you can't make it accurate like your gps. I know you're not wanting to look at it all the time. People are just amazed that mine actually works. They don't care if it's accurate or not. If you like flashers, then I'd do just as you said. Otherwise, I'd leave well enough alone. Mine in this 201 reads 8 or so high at wot. I've had a 285 that was actually dead on with a gps. My 200 Pro I had was only about 2 mph off. You get what you got. There's no adjusting.
