    Skeeter Wood

I want to buy an 04' Skeeter ZX2200 Bay -- I was informed on another site that the 04' Skeeters used wood in their construction. Is this true? If so, was it used on the deck construction? How about the transom?
Thanks in advance for any information.

    Re: Skeeter Wood (jfaisten)

I don't know about bay boats, but skeeter stopped putting wood in the bassboats sometime in the late '90's. I seriously doubt that boat would have any wood in it but I am not 100%.

For what it's worth, I searched this site on the Skeeter wood topic first. Several posts, nothing that would indicate clearly when and if Skeeter quit using wood or if they do use it, exactly where. I don't want to end up with wood in the transom and that isn't clear one way or the other from reading the posts. i've called the plant twice and left a message with a person who is supposed to know. He did not return my calls and now they are shut down until after New Year.

Same here, not familiar with bay boats but can tell ya that since 96 skeeter went to all composite hulls, at least in the bass boats. The only wood you may find in skeeters are for reinforcement of the deck. These may consist of small blocks of wood encased in glass to support the deck area that may be suspect to cracking if not supported.

mine has wood for deck support but like you said it's all covered in resin. There are some things that wood is better for and as long as it's glassed it's all good!

ChrisH -- is your boat an 2009 model? When you say wood in the deck do you mean the deck floor has a layer of wood or wood supports here and there? Thanks

    Re: (jfaisten)

Structural Wood has been gone since the late 1990's. You may find it encapsulated in non structural areas in some boats but they are all wood free now and have been for many years.

Doug -- that really helps. I have a shot a very nice Skeeter Bay boat but it's an 04'. Last think I want is a boat that can rot. Thanks

Mine is a 92, all wood, no problems. And it doesn't get more humid than here!
I've seen under my deck and stringers and all, it's perfect

There is wood in a 2004 Skeeter ZX250 stringer.
There is wood in a 2005 Skeeter ZX250 stringer.

This is not a guess. I didn't read it in a brochure.
It's a hands on, seen it, replaced some of it...fact.

And I consider a stringer to have somewhat of structural purpose......
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

SkeeterDD22 -- this is pretty important to me. Presumably the stringer is wood with a resign coating -- is that about right? Is the wood the structual aspect of the stringer or is composite material the largest part? Thanks.

    Re: (jfaisten)

We put a trolling motor recess in a 2007 model and it had wood for sure. I think it was an SX model. Not sure on the bay boats though, sorry.
