    winterizing an e-tec

What is involved in winterizing my 06 e-tec(225hp) Should I do it my self or take it to a dealer?

    Thanks

Read your owners manual, there is a series you need to do with the throttle to fog the motor. I also drain and replace the lower unit oil and check behind the prop for anything. Its VERY simple with an ETEC!

From memory the book mentions a light sequence between functions, if you have I-Command it does it with LCD display, a tad confusing at first.

IF you trust your own work, then you can save some money.

Add 2+4 fuel additive per directions, go run the boat long enough to get it run thru the engine fuel system. Watch this video and read your owners manual. Then remove prop, check for fishing line, grease shaft and grease all the pivot fittings on motor. Check for any water in gearcase or discolored oil by quickly removing bottom screw and replacing. Let motor drain completely in vertical position.

You can do the automatic fogging part on the muffs, but you should add 2+4 and run the boat on the water for a while to circulate the additive before the winterizing procedure.

Does having a hot foot change the self winterizing process??

not very. I tried to self winterize and I couldn't get it to work so I thought the hotfoot had something to do with it!

The hot foot stumped me the first year I winterized the E-Tec. Used the hoot foot just like the hand throttle and it winterized itself right up. My 2 cents!

    Re: winterizing an e-tec (Bugs)

last year my 75hp etec would not winterize. This Spring the dealer did the 3 year
check and found the shift linkage misajusted a bit.

Seems the original dealer did a lousy job on linkage ajustements at installation
and that apparently was the cause of some confusion in the EMM ...

Yesterday I winterized as per the book and all went well . very easy !!

Boat is now asleep for the big freeze coming

p.s. new s/w upgrade did not fix my false NO OIL code 38,s
