    93 Intruder 150 Dies

I'm having some issues with my 93 150 Intruder. From launch the boat runs great. I will run maybe 10 mins or so. Shut the motor off then fish for 15 minutes to an hour. I'll crank the motor it will run 15 seconds and then die. And its extremely hard to refire. Takes maybe 2 mins. It acts like it wants to refire and then dies. I'll give it gas while im cranking and it will puff smoke and then die again.. eventually it will refire and run great. Is this an issue with the idle arm adjustment? I've tried adjusting it and I'm maybe like a hair from touching. Would this make this issue happen or do I have something bigger going on?

It seems like it may be just a little soft. It's not dry by any means. I'll bump it a couple times. It will continue to die and puff smoke for another 1 or so then fire.

I was also clean the boat out a little last night. I just bought this boat in the spring and as I was cleaning it appeared that the previous owner changed out 2 thermostats as they were under one of the seats. Don't know if that makes any difference but thought I'd throw that out there.

let's hope they are. any quick adjustments or tips? should i try to push the idle arm against the roller ball? I had it all the way against the arm at one point but it seemed the idle was rather high and wouldnt back off so i bumped it back.

Listen to ChampioNman and check to see if the thermostats are installed, it will not come up to operating without them. I would do a compression check and a decarb may be in order.

Where are the thermostat's located at? I'll have to check to make sure. It almost seems like it's running lean is the cause of it, and the VRO continues to pump oil in at normal rate to the cylinders causing the puffs of smoke while attempting to start. Do you think maybe trying pumping the bulb each stop would maybe fix? Do many people have to do that? I'm going to run some seafoam through her this weekend on a complete tank and see how that works.

Top or both heads under that big ol's plastic nut. Try bumping the choke on start up. nope not normal to have to keep pumping the bulb.

Re: 93 Intruder 150 Dies (ChampioNman)

Checked under both plastic caps on the top side of the heads. NOTHING. I have the old ones that were apparently taken out. I'm assuming this is whats causing the problem? There is a number on 433395 on each. Is this a correct thermostat part number? Would these being out create this issue? I can understand them not being there creating some other issue but I wouldnt think this would make it die. Roughly how much are these?

Cant seem to locate the serial number on the motor. Its back into the garage and kinda tough to move around. Where should it be located at on this motor.

Somewhere on the stern clamp bracket next to the trim unit. Port side.

Dont forget the springs, part number for a 1993 150 is 338174, you will need one for each side.

Re: 93 Intruder 150 Dies (ELGIN)

Thanks I still have one of the springs. Do you see any need to replace the spring? I found a plate on the back of my motor that says g3102627. I'm going to call some local Evinrude repair shops and see if they have any of the thermostats in stock. I realize this needs to be done anyways but does anyone think this would cause my problems? I have a tourney this weekend and hope to have it running decently.

    Nope, just get another one.
Thats a serial number and that wont help a dealer, what they need is a model number like E150GLET, this is what a dealer uses to look up parts.

A cold running motor will be hard to start an die alot.

Thought I would give everyone an update. Had a 2 day tournament this weekend. After replacing (actually installing because they weren't even there) two new thermostats, the boat ran awesome. No problems at all! Thanks guys.

Prolly be a good idea to decarb her now. A cold running engine will build up carbon.JMHO

I ran Seafoam through her this weekend. Should this do the trick or do you recommend something else?
