I have decided to tackle some more maintenance on my 1990 175 Johnson (J175stlese). I was told that the crankcase seal was leaking. Well I found the leaking seal, but I can't find a part number for it. All I found was some references to a material you have to cut. That can't be the only way to buy this seal, can it? How would a leaking crankcase seal affect the motor? Would it hinder the starting at all?
Next, the motor mounts have to be replaced at the same time. Sounds like a good weekend of work. That's pretty straight forward.
The people who did the carb work told me that this motor wasn't worth the time and money to fix, but I can't seem to find a reasonably priced replacement. Am I correct in wanting to simply replace the parts intead of getting a new - used motor?
Thanks ya'll
