HELP QUICK, 1975 JOHNSON 50 HP REBUILD PROBLEMS

Hey guys and gals, first time here on this forum.
    i have a 1975 ranger bomer with a 50 hp johnson model # 50esl75b
motor hasnt ran in 2 years i just started rebuilding it over the past summer
    so far i have
rebuilt carbs, new spark plugs and wires, all new gas lines, new fuel pump/filter, and i think thats it.
to start off, i have no working choke and to get it to start i have to play with the linkage while cranking the motor.
after i did all this i started her up, she ran fine in a trash bin of water even went into gear. put the muffs on it and she still ran fine, in and out of gear, forward and reverse.
every time i put it in the lake and do the same thing it starts up( still have to play with linkage) but wont stay running in the water. and after i try to get it running a while (say 15 mintues) it dyes and wont start back up. if you wait 10 or 15 minutes it still will just die.

i think the linkage is off or something is wrong there and i havent checked compresion yet, i will be doing that here soon.

i hope some one out there can tell me whats goin on. and all so if someone can put up some pictures of the linkage and choke that would be helpfull to.

    Ryan,
Welcome to the boards, if you are running a portable tank make sure the vent is open on the tank, and no lines are pinched.

The 5th post down in this forum is "one stop shopping" open it up and click on the BRP parts catalog and with your serial# you can access the parts breakdown which may help.

    Ryan,
First please turn off your cap lock it makes your posts easier to read. The choke is a vintage part but still is available. Also if you go to http://www.evinrude.com and select the parts section change it to Johnson and find your motor. You can then zoom in on the intake manifold and see all the parts associated with the intakes and carbs. Barnacle Bill's at 856-785-9455 used to be a sponsor here and they do have your part in stock. Ask for Joe. Locally you can go to Lee's Marine on Whitehall rd in Anderson. It is off Highway 24. Good folks there.

OK tryed to start her up today, and no go.
i did find a missing gasket on the carb, but fixed that.
everything seemed to be working today, i set all the carb linkage up, it turned over but never started. i checked the for fire in the plug and i dont think its fireing.
i dont have a kill switch that i know of so that out and the plugs are new.
i check in the power box thing and it seem all good.
when i did pull the spark plugs out there was gas on the plugs, and i dont think i saw any 2 months ago when i looked at it.
any suggest on whats causeing the lack of spark from the spark plugs.
