I am looking at a boat with one of these, in general is this a bad year? The boat it is on is a tiller so I would guess it has seen more idle time than if it were on a console boat. I noticed it is a litltle oily where the power head meets the mid section, the owner says it has always been that way and claims no problems ever with the motor. Sorry no numbers.
You are interested in a 10 year old motor, and no matter what make or model, that is a crapshoot. The FICHTs of that year, even though the V4 did not have the major problems, have no resale value to speak of no matter what Blue Book says.
If you can get it for next to nothing and it was given an OK by a trained mechanic, then go for it.

the V4 Fichts NEVER had problems, (that is inherent problems) they performed as they should have from new, it was only a couple of models in the V6 range that gave them the bad name, if all the usual checks are OK, then it will be fine.
Thanks for the replies. I will have it checked out before deciding to purchase. I had no idea the resale was so poor on the Fichts. Thanks Seahorse as you are known as the BRP Guy for answers on another site.
