    Skeeter stands behind their product

I fish club tx with my friend Lane.In 05 he bought a new TZX200. A few months after he got it one of us gill-hooked a bass and it bled on the deck.At home while cleaning it we poked holes in the gelcoat. His dealer(Sun n Fun) took care of it,perfect repair. Few months later the top cap has several very bad cracks, returned to factory to be repaired. Coupla months later cap and hull were cracking, returned to factory to have hull fixed and NEW top cap. 3 weeks ago after a trip to east Texas I was helping him clean his boat we found several very bad cracks on bottom of hull. He calles Skeeter, they sent someone to his home to pick the boat up.Friday Skeeter deliveres a 08 Skeeter ZX200 with 08 Yamaha to him, loaded with new GPS graphs, trolling motor the works. His 1st boat had something wrong,no arguments. But Skeeter stood up and did the right thing, good to know that there are still company's like that. i'll hafta post some pics of Lane's red ZX.It's a helluva good looking rig.

I also had a fellow fishermen, with a problem with his boat it was sent to a glass shop an then on to the Skeeter plant , Skeeter did the same for him with the new boat, Granted boats, like automobiles, will have things happen from time to time , bad however it is , I havent herd of Ford , or GM , giving a man a new Truck for one that has 80,000 miles on it , an is three years old, And then has it delivered to his Door, this really showes alot for a Co. such as Skeeter . My hats Off to Skeeter!!!!

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (Obiggen)

My Avatar says it all for me. Skeeter would not help me out because I am the second owner of the boat and it had been sold as a tourney boat.

I still think my boat has a defect but they will not stand behind it because of the reasons above, but I am glad to hear these stories as it gives me some confidence if I do ever decide to purchase another Skeeter.

wow great customer service but I'm left wondering what kind of margin/profit there is on a new boat...

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (BLAAJA)

My FX 210, which is also over 20' has been a nightmare as well.. You realize, of course that any boat manufactured in America that is over 20' is builder tested. No Engineering standards at all... no NMMA, no Coast Guard. I didn't find this out until I got a letter from the NMMA:

    Good morning Mr. Indish,
I read with concern the problems that you had with the Skeeter boat.
The certification tests for maximum horsepower are Coast Guard required
for boats under 20 and strictly up to the manufacturer for boats over 20
feet. Since you didn't get into the specifics of the boat problem if
related to horsepower, materials or construction, I suspect that your
boat is a 21 footer and therefore builder tested.
Unfortunately, there are no US regulations or standards for hull
construction, strength testing and scantlings. Therefore, it is not
part of our certification program. Boats going into Europe do have
construction requirements for their CE certification program.

I was thinking a bit more about this. Where were the cracks on cap and how bad were they? Does your buddy have pics of the cracks? Were they similar to what you see in my sig?

Some of the cracks on the bottom were close to yours. The ones on top some were hairline, some were almost tears.

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (frogbite)

So ....I am thinking about buying a new 2007 ZX190 w/ 175 Yamaha. SHold I be concerned about all these comments concerning cracks in the gelcoat and hull. Do Champions have similar problems. I"ve owned three Cobalts for pleasure cruising and they never had any problems like this. Outstanding hulls and gelcoats. Who has the counterpart in bass boats?

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (lwlittle)

I don't think that this is a common problem at all. If you take good care of your boat you shouldn't have any problems at all, but there will always be a few exceptions as with any boat manufacture. Plus if you buy a new boat skeeter has a lifetime hull warranty for the original owner.
I do beleive that skeeter stands behind their product. After talking with many dealers when I bought my boat its pretty common knowledge that if you take care of your boat skeeter will take care of you if you have any problems even if the boat is just slightly out of warranty.
To sum it up, I'm very happy with my boat and the treatment that I got when I did have a few minor problems with it.

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (ropatz)

This is all true if you purchase it new. All bets are off once you are the second owner. Skeeter makes a great boat. They stand behind it if you are the original owner.

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (frogbite)

Read their warranty. Skeeter excludes racing and "COMPETITION" (Think really hard about that). Skeeter excludes gel cracks and has the last word as to what a gel crack is. They also make no deference between innocent spidery cracks in the cap and potentially serious gel cracks in the hull. A gel crack is "Just Cosmetic" to Skeeter, makes no difference if it is above or below the waterline.

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (bassen9)

glad to hear that skeeter helped the owner but it is scary to think that this boat had that many issues with cracking and it wasnt picked up before it left the plant..Sounds as if Skeeter needs to rethink there building process or at least Q/C...

Re: Skeeter stands behind their product (papadish)

Wow papadish. This sounds similar to what I am experiencing. I bought my boat with 10 hours on it and it had cracks all over the hull that I knew about. I paid to have that refinished. The cracks on the cap showed up some time later just from normal use.

Like my other posts and what papadish says, Skeeter considers it cosmetic. I consider it a manufacturing issue. But I am not the manufacturer
