setup question 05 TZX 200

I have a 05 TZX 200 with a 04 200 HPDI. I'm running a 24P TXP right around 3 1/2" under pad. I took it out tonight with a good chop and it ran 68.5 with 40 gals gas and all my tackle and myself at 240. At WOT is was right at 6000 rpms with 25+ psi. Holeshot is really good except right before it sets down on pad between 3200 and 3400 the prop acts like it blows out, if I wait a second then mash the hotfoot it grabs. Any suggestions? The boat feels like it has tons of lift and seems like it is barely in the water. I would like to get some more speed but the rpm's make me a little nervous. Would having the prop work do anything? i would try a 25M or 25 TPX. maybe even a 26. sounds like your motor can come up some too. i heard the TPX likes to run high

What you referred to has often been said as the correct way to prop a boat for speed. When you've got the prop height set for max speed it'll often blow out as it comes on plane. You have the option of dropping the motor 1/4" and it'll stop, along with max speed dropping a touch. Or you can leave it as is and feather the throttle to eliminate it.

You've got it set up correctly as is, and are getting every oz. of performance from it you can with for prop and height combo. If you switch props you'll just experiment with height and setup until you get back to where you are now. If you're concerned about turning 6K, I'd follow the recomendations of a 25 or even 26. Remember increasing the prop by 2 will drop rpms by about 400.

I wouldn't change a thing. When you add a partner and livewells full of fish, you'll drop to 5700-5800 rpms...PERFECT!

Plus, as summer heats up, the rpms will drop a little further. Throttle control in the cooler months. I also do not trust the standard tachs to be accurate.

I was running mine with a 25 TXP at about 1/2" to 3/4" below pad and the holeshot was like you described, but I had to really feather it when coming onto plane. Over the winter I had a hydro plate added, and never got a chance to experiment this spring because it blew a powerhead.

I'm now at the "fun" part of breakin where I can run it at WOT for almost 5 minutes. Hopefully I'll get a better idea of what it will do even higher yet. There are guys on the boards running a TXP on the HPDI above pad because of the low water pickup.

I think Mark could fix the blowout problem with a B&B job and when he does you will be able to run it higher and faster. Only problem is when you go higher you are probably going to gain a few more Rs so you may need for him to add about a 1/2 degree of pitch when he does the B&B. That should drop about 100 Rs off of it initially but you will get it back when you raise it up some more.

He can also install the PVS system in the TXPs. That way you could control the venting for holeshot.

I've got the same boat with a 25 on it. The only time I have any blowout issues is when I don't trim the motor all the way down before taking off. Speed is good. With my partner and I we can run about 71 GPS with the tach at 5800 with tournament load. the motor is raised just a touch from factory. Keep in mind we are light weights though partner is ~150 and I'm 175.
My top speed has dropped to 69 recently as I've moved my tackle into the forward most box trying to get the nose to rest lower in the water.

also does your jackplate have the shims on the back of it that gives you more negative trim? I'm not sure if its on all of them or not.

BTW I think the hull design of the skeeter is more consistent with added load than some of the others. so what you give up in all out top end you get back when you load it down.

Thanks for all the replys. My motor have the 2 degree wedges in it. I think I will send this prop to Mark for his touch. I have never experienced the prop blow out before. I was running a 25M before but this TXP seems easier to drive and has a better holeshot. What will the PVS plugs do for the prop if I have them installed? Thanks again guys for all your help.

That rig needs a 25 pitch. Been there. Raise her a quarter inch and see where you are.
