2003 225HO compression low....HELP

I noticed my motor was running a bit weird this weekend like it had a misfire, so I changed the plugs and went out and was still doing it. Brought it back to the shop and decided to do a compression check....well....all cylinders are at roughly 120 psi except for one.....which is at 30psi? This motor had a powerhead done, and I am still in the process of breaking in the motor. it is showing 5 hours of break in time on the computer? Can anyone shed some light? Am I looking at the worse here or could there be another cause for this low psi cylinder? thanks

Hi Anthony, sorry to hear about that, but I guess the dealer did not find and solve the problem why the engine failed in the first place and to just fix the problem without finding a cause will lead to further problems.

Not hard to remove the cylinder head and visually inspect the bore and that will determine the next thing to do, but it does not sound good.

I would want to be making sure the fuel hose is 3/8 with no restrictions and the engine is not lugging at WOT.

Let us know what you find once the heads are off,

Take it back to the dealer, sounds like the piston got installed backwards or the one of the rings didn't get installed when they put the piston in, or they bored it out and didn't put the right size piston in. Something crazy like that.

well I dropped it off today...they are gonna get to it, so hopefully i will know something soon, will keep you posted...thanks for the help!

Was it the same cylinder that went down before?

im not sure, i bought it with the rebuilt powerhead....but its in the shop now, and they said it was a ring failure on piston #2...so we'll see what happens
