Question on 1993 Evinrude Intruder 150

The motor is getting too much fuel on cold starts. If I fire it up, then switch it off before the motor warms up, and try and start it again, the plugs foul out and will not fire. I know this sounds odd, but in showing the boat to potential buyers this problem has come to light. Any sujestions as to what might be causing too much fuel? choke circuit, VRO pump, fuel pump, etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is one of the worst things you can do to that motor. Put it on muffs and let it get to normal operating temps. That will burn off the excess fuel from the plugs.

Are you pushing the key in when you crank it? Pushing the key in chokes it. That could lead to fouling plugs.

Once you fire it up the first time, you should not have to push the key in to start it. It should fire right off every time. If not, then you need to figure out if you have a carb problem. Maybe you have a carb overflowing.

If you have the ability, I would would look for a flooding issue after the initial start up.

May sound too simple - but do you have the motor trimmed down or under when starting ?
