Gauge for Atlas Hydraulic Jack Plate

I recently purchased a 2012 Ranger Z521 with an Atlas hydraulic jackplate. The gauge went out on my last trip. Are the gauges of the Atlas plates reliable? I know this will be covered under warranty, but I was wondering if anyone else had difficulty with their Atlas Hydraulic Jackplate gauge.

    Thanks in Advance

Just installed a new jackplate. I'm on my second gauge and still can't get it to work.

Wow, wonder if they had a bad batch out or something since we have not had any problems with those.

Rudy, have you checked your sending unit? If your gauge reads zero, your magnet may not be close enough to the switch. The bracket Atlas uses is somewhat flimsy & can be broken fairly easy. I had to install a plate on both sides of the mount to strengthen it to get mine to read correctly

No I havent looked at it recently.. Do you have a picture of where its located. I believe I also have one for my trim gauge and with the pro XS I heard you need a different gauge cause the distance of travel on those are much greater than the gauge allows.. My trim gauge is also about worthless. Trim is not digital.. Trim will read at half when the prop is right at the surface, almost out of the water, which to me is almost trimmed all the way up 100%... The gauge is at zero just as the motor starts pushing the tabs down, then it has another 1/4 to go down for your hullshot..

I am offshore & can't send a pic. I downloaded a pic from the T H Marine website & drew a red box around the bracket I was referring to. My problem was that my fishing buddy is 73 years old & he likes to brace himself against my powerpole & motor when he needs to piss. He has kicked this bracket twice now, & it moves enough to quit reading on the guage. I sandwiched this bracket between 2 pieces of aluminum & have not had anymore problems since. I am not very good at this computer stuff, so hopefully the pic will be large enough to view.

This thread may help you on adjusting your trim gauge on the Pro XS

Re: Gauge for Atlas Hydraulic Jack Plate (my492vs)

I messed with my gauge the other day and noticed that black slide was and still is lose on the bottom which is causing the gauge to not pick up a reading... How did you get the aluminum in there to make the bottom of that bracket push up against the other side flush... The top is tight but I noticed the bottom is out about 1/8 inch.. When I push in on the bottom of the plastic it reads on the digital gauge right... Seems you would have to fasten it to the bolt just like the top is mounted, to have direct pressure on the bottom of the plastic... There is a motor bolt right near the bottom of that slide..

Gotta like it, some of my fishing friends are in their 70's, they can knock my Atlas sending unit out all they want, they get a hall pass.

I want to be way into my 70's and still fishing too!

How about adding some spacers under the bracket on the forward side of your mounting bolts. That would square up the vertical part of the bracket & allow you to adjust it to read at all heights. I am adding pics of the aluminum i added, but it does not sound like what I did would not fix your problem

Re: Gauge for Atlas Hydraulic Jack Plate (rzone)

I hope I did not give the impression that I was complaining about my fishing partner. Parts can be replaced, but him & I do not have too many more years to fish together, so I don't complain when he is not perfect. He taught me how to fish over 40 years ago & we have been fishing together ever since so I am enjoying the trips we get to go together. However, dony let the age mislead you, the old coot is in pretty good shape for 73 & he can still out fish me on occasion

No complaining perceived, that is great you got to fish with someone that many years. And good information to pass along, cause I am sure if it's not me peeing off the back of boat is will be someone else. And I have a boat with an Atlas on order.

I hope you get many more trips with your partner.

Not sure if it would or not.. I may look at it again and just see if those small bolts became a little lose and tightening those may pull that bottom back square to read. Like I say, when I push in on the bottom piece of the plastic it reads fine.. So those top screws may just be slightly lose, or moved just a little.. THanks again.

Thanks, I have had the Atlas for 18 months & have been very happy with it so far. What boat did you order?
