Advice on Jackplate Setup on a Ranger Z19

    I have a 5" manual jackplate on my 2006 Z19.
I spoke with Ranger and they said I can put up to a 10" hydraulic jackplate on it.
Would anyone know what the best setup would be? Is it worth it to go to 10". What's involved in the installation? Would stearing cables need to be changed? Anything else?
And if I get a power pole do I need to get anything along with the jack plate?
Being new to jackplate technology any guidance is appreciated.

Yes i would go with the 10 inch plate for better over all performance. The Atlas is a very good plate and if you are thinking about adding power poles you can buy brackets that mount right onto the Atlas plate. What makes the hyd plate so nice is you can adjust your plate for all different kinds of water conditions and the loads that you have in your boat. I know a lot of guys don't care that much about hyd plates but i for one do, i have to have one on my rig to get the overall performance that i want out of my rig. Bobs also makes a good hyd plate but you would have to buy the brackets that goes between the boat and jack plate to mount the power poles which is not bad either. If you want to stay with a manual plate the Slidemaster is a good one also, that is what comes standard on a Ranger.

I had never run a boat with a Manuel or hydro plate until I got my z21 which came with a bobs hydro..........it took a few months to get used to using it while running but I used it from day 1 just to feel safer idling across stump flats ( 6 inches of lift makes a world of difference )

I had that boat for 5 years and I honestly don't think any high end high performance boat should be allowed to not have a hydro plate.......the difference in performance and handling is like 4 wheel drive vs 2 wheel drive, once you realize it there is no going back

I fish a lot of shallow water. I can imagine a hydraulic jack plate would be incredibly helpful taking off and running. Plus putting the motor 10" out there has got to make the 19 footer run better.
But what about other possible mods that would need to be done if I did install one? I guess I'm trying to factor in the hidden costs.

I added Bobs 10" Hyd. to my Z-19. Had no other expenses myself, but seems it is more dependent upon your motor brand and the dealer who originally rigged it if he made fuel lines and such long enough. You will need a new longer transom saver if you use one. I am able to trailer with the plate full up and motor almost fully vertical as showing in photo below.

Since mine, Bobs now has a new 10" that has the pump external which would be nicer install than mine. I think they will pre-drill the jack plate side for a Power Pole install (no spacers needed) if you order it from them and ask for Port or Starboard Power Pole drill.

Love having the Hyd- jackplate. Fish places I never would get to without it. Helps too to save the prop from hitting/bending in the hidden stump fields. Helps with holeshot and top speed, but I don't care much about that.

I also got the Bob's dash led readout which saves turning around and looking at plate height when getting up on plane and I am raising the motor for better economy and performance. Must really have the dash readout to avoid overtemping the motor by raising sometimes too high.

    You will love having it.

i am almost positive you are not supposed to trailer with the jackplate fully up... i was told by my service tech to trailer with jackplate all the way down.

Re: Advice on Jackplate Setup on a Ranger Z19 (mikepags)

Thanks for the feedback. It is true that Bob's printed manual recommends trailering in the lowered position. I had checked with Bob's mechanical engineer directly, and the reason for that recommendation is not for safety, stress or load concerns. They just don't want mud/dirt/contamination from the road getting into the tracks of the jack plate and then into their track bearings which are plastic and are a wear item for them.

As I trailer very little and can always revert to the down and tilted position , I am not overly concerned about mud..this is Texas and it seems to never rain.

As to Ranger, their concern is the transom loads from an unsupported raised motor. I carefully place and use a stabilizing support bar supported by the trailer, while others use no real transom support( ie. wedge, lock-n-haul). My peak loads on the transom bolts being somewhat less, even in the UP position.

And lastly, my RangerBoats/Bob's authorized dealer & service facility recommended trailering with the plate up on the support arm rather than lowered on none.

    Anyway, thanks again.
