Hey Josh, a couple of questions for you. First, why is it that I loose my navigational aids when I go to Fish n Chip ? Also, does the Elite 7 have fish n chip ?
Thx

FishNChip is Navionics Sonar Charts. It is not Navionics data. Some locations may or may not have nav-aids.
The contours are a result of program uses uploading sonar logs and Navionics processes them to create the HD mapping.
Hotmaps Platinum and Navionics+ cards have Sonar Charts if you select to download it when you do a Freshest Data update.
The Elite 7 will read the FishNChip map layer if you turn it on.

Hey Basseeker. Sorry I missed this I was traveling the past couple days to a tournament.
Wayne explained it perfectly and of you have any more questions feel free to PM me anytime.
Also, if you can run a split dual map screen , do it and leave one map on Fish n chip. This way you'll see the extended data and see the creek channels if the SonarChart doesn't show it.
There is another great benefit to the two choices. These cards are designed for ALL boating needs, not just fishing and not just navigation. Fish'n chip is for, well...Fish'n. I have been a boater for 40 years living aboard and crusing in ocean yachts for about 10 of those years. AND, I have been tournament bass fishing since the 70's. SO, I see both sides and two GREAT benefits to the card design. Navionics has done the homework. The larger boater who cruises and needs navigational aids has little use for seeing ledges, points and drops. When turned on the Fishin Chip/Sonar chart clutters the screen with great contours and detail, but it makes it more difficult to navigate. If the large boats need to harbor out of the safe navigational lanes and water, then they can touch the fishin/sonar chart tab and see the intimate details upon entering a shallow water area.
On the Bass side...when the angler is fishing, there is little need for navigational aids (he is virtually stopped), big motor off, until he starts moving between spots, other than , maybe seeing a buoy showing a possible ledge edge. So when the angler makes a run...easily just one touch turns OFF Sonar Chart and it becomes the excellent navigational screen. When the angler slows down for his area..one touch and he is back on the Fishin sonar chart. I just recently installed a Touch on a large poker run 150MPH powerboat...They use the nav aids with sonar chart OFF and can easily see their line and nav aids....and when slowing down for the marina stops...touch it back ON to the sonar chart Fishin page and they can see the very detailed creek to marina areas. These are half million dollar boats and running aground is not an option.
For my Platinum setup: with shading on, Photo overlay land and shallow, Transparency dropped to about 11, and Easy View on, you will also notice that the mile markers are much easier to see on the Nav screen, and the line is easier to follow as well. This is of course my personal preference.
This is an EXCELLENT card feature design and offers the best features for both boaters needs. I run KY lake a lot and use exactly that on and off process every time. Works really well and is MUCH easier and safer using the navigational screen at speed.

Thanks for the help guys, wow just keep on learning everytime I visit this site
I want to know , is the Hotmaps Platinum + , and the Navionics Platinum + the same ? Dont want to drop $200 on the wrong card.
Read that post, that should give you the answer: http://www.bbcboards.net/lowrance-so...-platinum.html
If you decide to go for the Platinim, just be sure youre unit can handle it. Check that doc:

Hey guys, been browsing this forum and have not been able to find the procedure on deleting maps from a Navionics + preloaded card. I would like to delete all maps that I know I will not use. From what I read this would help my HDS-8 Gen 2 run quicker. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank in Advance
Wayne
With the card in your computer and connected to the Navionics website with Chart Installer, locate the trash can on the panel.
You cannot select what to delete, you delete all on the card and then download what you want.
Read post #451 here about the Delete function:

Thanks Wayne P., sounds like this will do the trick. It's a new card and did not want to ruin it.
Thanks again

Heres a video as well. Fyi I purge and reload quite often to be sure to get the newest freshest data possible.
Thanks JD That should be put on the sticky board, good info.
When you download your buddy wpts from a SD card, what icon do they show up as ?
Part II, can I get list of my wpts from the SD card ?
Basseeker - not sure I'm following but the map card is just for mapping and the waypoints are stored internally on your unit.
+1 on JD comments. The waypoints WILL transfer from HDS to HDS automatically through the Ethernet cable. So if you want waypoints from your Buddys unit...connect with Ethernet and when you turn the unit on it will automatically show on the 2nd unit when it is on. You can also fully manage those as well..meaning you can edit, rename, change icons, insert comments etc. Only on the HDS family of units are those features available. Very cool to mark a point on the console and it immediately shows on ALL other units connected. I run four screens and use only one Navionics Platinum card. I edit and manage these all the time...very easy. NOTE: If you ever sell a unit...deleting waypoints does NOT really delete them. You must use the purge feature....otherwise..you think they deleted on your unit but when the new owner plugs in the ethernet cable to another unit...bingo...he has all of your waypoints. Not good :) unless of course you intend to do that for a friend. Probably not :)

I have an HDS 8 Gen2 & HDS Gen2 7 Touch. Could someone walk me through the Chart Settings to have a shaded area from the bank out to 15 fow? I have tried all I know to do and only get Red Dots at the 15' level instead of shading. The red dots are hard to see. I have a Navionics Premium East v6. I have also tried the shading with the built in Lowrance Insight mapping with no success.
Thanks
The red dots are Shallow Area.
The blue highlighting is called Depth Shading.
You can have both at the same time.
The setting is shown on the Navionics website:
Looks like Shading is the feature title

I don't think you can get shading on a Premium map, only on Platinium
