Can the factory swap safety plate with new HP rating?

i have a 1998 Dale Earnhardt intimidator which is almost a 21 ft boat. It is rated for 235hp which makes no sense.......Will the factory give me an unlimited HP rating or at least a 250 hp rating plate that I can swap out and a letter saying the boat is fine with a 250hp? I really want to put a 250xs on it but must be tournament legal !!!! There has to be a solution for this. HELP !!!!

Remove the safety plate some tourneys go by coast guard regulations. It might work.

good question...I have the same boat. If I could put a 250 on mine and afford it I would do the same.

I'm just saying here guys that even the 20 ft Bullet has an "unlimited" HP rating.........why not just have that and let us decide what motor to put on the boat. They don't seem to have any issues with their "unlimited" rating........

I do think its a joke that someone will protest you for a larger motor. Thats just being a sorry LOSER. You got out fished and thats it.

Too funny !!!!! I like the "custom decals" on that motor.....LOL. Even with a 250 on my 2000 DC I think you win if I'm not mistaken

Re: Can the factory swap safety plate with new HP rating? (GamblerSam)

I found this and thought it may help. It is a standard HP tournament HP clause. Just thought you might want to read it, closely.

HORSEPOWER REGULATIONS: MAXIMUM HORSEPOWER FOR ALL OUTBOARD MOTORBOATS USED IN OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT PRACTICE AND IN TOURNAMENT COMPETITION WILL BE 300 HP. Horsepower cannot exceed the limitations set by the U.S. Coast Guard. When required, each boat MUST have a U.S. Coast Guard horsepower rating plate attached to the boat by the manufacturer. The horsepower of the outboard engine must NOT exceed the rating specified on this plate. Falsifying information on entry forms or altering the horsepower-rating numbers on the engine is also cause for immediate disqualification. Posted speed limits must be observed and all boats must be operated in a safe manner.
