How do I remove my lanyard switch?

I think my Lanyard switch is intermittent on my boat and causing a non start issue every once in a while.

How do I remove it without breaking it? I saw the slots on the side which I figured are to pop it out with a flat head screwdriver but I tried, and dont want to wrench on it too hard without breaking it.

It should have a plastic nut on the outside and comes out from behind. It operates like a dead man. When it is in the run position, the switch is open and when the lanyard is pulled, the spring operates the the switch and grounds out the ignition. I really don't see a way for it to be intermittent, unless it doesn't always kill your engine when you pull the lanyard.

    Mine looks nothing like that

don said it's very possible I have a intermittent lanyard. The switch itself could be shorting out and causing a non start issue..and from doing a search, it's a very common issue.

You have to remove the entire control to replace the switch. You will most likely break the black center that holds it together so order another one along with a new switch.

So I guess a easier option would be just to cut the wires on that one, and put in a new one at a different location.

I already spent some time looking. I cant find this exact one to replace it with.

my issue I have traced down is between the Ignition switch (its a brand new ignition switch) to the wire harness on the motor. Only things between are the neutral switch and the lanyard.

That's just not how it's done, It's not a big deal to fix it right. It would take me a whole 15min. to make it NEW with the parts on hand.

I have a used one I could send you.

I guess im confused on what your saying to get this thing off.

Does the whole throttle assembly come off as one piece?

    Yes
1 Push neutral button in and move handle to 9 o clock position
2 CAREFULLY pry out center neutral button
    3 Remove nut in handle ( I think its 5/8 or 11/16"
4 Remove handle caefull with trim wires
5 Pry off decal plate you now will see the 7/16 bolt heads that hold the control box on.
6 Reach behind control box support its weight as u take out the bolts
7 Now you might be able to squeeze the release tabs on the safety switch, if not remove the face plate assy.
Just reverse the steps to re assemble, look closely at the trim wires make sure they arent damaged at the pivot point "bottom of handle" you must reinstall handle at 9 o clock position. Verify F-N-R is ok before finishing.

Sorry, didn't realize you have the toggle switch type. You got all the info you need above. Switches should be readily available. I use these guys for my outboard parts. Boats.net - New and Used Boats for Sale, Outboard Boat Motors, and Discount Outboard Boat Parts Fast service and have always had the parts I've needed.
