    1998 Johnson 200 Venom

I'm hearing a knocking sound from my motor. It only does it in gear and i had a new foot installed 6-8 months ago.(broken tooth on old foot)

It's pushing a 20' Sprint 296 SC Pro and has been runnig well until this.

Any Ideas? Is this gonna be another 3 grand for another foot or could it be anything else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the boards read Rule #1 please. But in the mean time, take a compression test, then check the color of your GC fluid. Look for any chunks.

I've got a complete 97 200 Venom i need to sell. Its got a good lower unit and still runs good.
I'll sell the whole thing for less than 3 grand.

I just had a knocking problem on mt 97 200 venom, it had a knocking I could hear at Idle, mechanic did a compression test and leak down test both good, but when mechanic pulled the heads found #1 and #5 cylingders gaulded. Better have it checked out before something goes.

Just one thing to add to Championman's advice, check your propshaft for being bent. Take off the prop, trim the motor down and place some stationary object very close to the threads of the shaft. Then spin the shaft with your fingers very carefully and look for in and out movement against the object. This is an indication that something has been hit, and could have had an ill effect on the Forward and/or Pinion gear!!

Thanks Mike, I'll take you up on that offer the next shaft I straighten! The 2 cinder blocks & sledge hammer do a pretty good job, but it's getting tough on these old eye's to see .002 wobble.
