According to the description on bass pro's website, Navionics Updates Chart Card is now available for Platinum cardholders. Can anyone confirm this?

The Navionics Update card is a discount for the Navionics+ version.
You use your current card to activate the Update card to make it the Navionics+

ANY old product can activate it.

If you have a Navionics Hotmaps Platinum card that is 16 GB, you can renew that on-line for the same price as the Update card and not have to buy the Update card, unless you want the extra map card.

Thanks JD. And thanks Wayne P.

    I'm still confused though.
The way Wayne describes SonarCharts, if I get Navionics+, I can continue to update my card with updates from SonarCharts for the life of the card, without any more money for subscriptions, correct?
But the way JD describes it, matches what I thought and described for $ costs.

JD, I definitely know full well the advantages of crowd sourcing data collection (though, there are downsides to that also), and would love to see the lake maps improved. The hurdle that we have to get over, is get people to upload their data up there. I haven't seen that yet. BUT, last year it was pretty new, and word probably wasn't out yet. So, hopefully this year more people are aware of it, and willing to upload their data.

I do a lot of mapping at work, and I have created many of my own maps. So I'm well versed in the data collection and surveying methods.

    No
No matter what Navionics product you get, it includes one year of updates.
To start the updates, you have to register the card (create an account) and do an update within 60 days of purchase.
While your account is active, you can do the Freshest Data updates and Sonar Charts updates or sonar log processing.
Creating the account is done by downloading and installing Chart Installer software on your computer. That is your link to the Navionics download/upload server.

After a year, your account is terminated and you cannot do updates or participate in Sonar Charts. Your card still will function though. What is on the card when the subscription ends is what you will have.

You can renew your account on-line IF you have the Hotmaps Platinum version or the Navionics+ version. $99.00

The Hotmaps Premium account is ended and not renewable.
Otherwise, your card is usable but not updateable.

You can purchase the Navionics Update card at a discount (same price as a renewal) and get the Navionics+ software.
It takes an older card to active the Update card and make it the Navionics+ version, but you still can use the old card.
It is registered and locked so it cannot be used again to activate another Update card.

So, basically what I said originally. You buy the $200 Navionics+, get SonarCharts free for 12months, then pay $100 per year after that.

Yep, that sums it up quite well to keep the use of Sonar Charts and Freshest Data updates.

Otherwise it would be like the old days if you want new data, you would have to wait until the next annual issue and purchase a new card to have the lastest published maps.

Here's my dilemma, I'm interested in charting one lake in Canada that I fish every summer. Since I haven't seen any SonarCharts updates for that lake, right now I would be the only one submitting sonar logs. That's my problem right now. Why should I help Navionics possibly sell more map chips for that lake because of the improved charting from my sonar logs; if I'm the only one submitting sonar logs for it? I could submit my sonar logs, and let everyone else benefit from my efforts, or keep them to myself. Right now, I am choosing to keep them to myself.

My choice was either $200 Navionics w/ Sonar Charts +$100/year after the first 12months, or a one time $200 for AutoChart ($250 for Pro), or a one time $150 for Reefmaster Lite (and options to add features).

There are pros & cons to going with each route, but I chose AutoChart since it was a one time fee, and I could continually update my map, along with the other boats in my group, for as many years as I want without having to spend more $. Along with side imaging overlay, and bottom hardness layers. I've also met a couple other groups up there that have shared their data with me. So I guess in a sense, we're privately crowd sourcing our own jointly shared maps.

Someday if I see that people start submitting sonar logs for the lake we fish to SonarCharts, then I might get that also. But I'm going to hold out until then. Since I'm saving all my sonar logs for AutoChart anyways, I could always decide to send those to Navionics down the road someday.

Certainly, if I lived in an area with poorly surveyed, or non-surveyed lakes, and I saw frequent updates in Navionics SonarCharts from other users, I would own it and contribute.

my freshest data update chip on my hds 7 touch only shows minimal data...how do I fix this?? i've been opening the navionics app on my phone to get more info. It showed up on my last elite 7 before i upgraded to HDS 7. I haven't had a lot of time to play with the units so I'm sure it can be a very simple step I didn't complete.

It depends on what map layer you are viewing on your phone.
To view the equivelent maps, you have to select FishNChip maps on your HDS to see the Sonar Charts map layer.
Platinum and Navionics+ has both Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts. Premium just has Nautical Charts.

You have to turn on all the map details to have them displayed on the Nautical Charts.

This information is incorrect. I bought an update card and found out you cannot update a platinum card.

How old is your Platinum card?

I have renewed my Platinum card subscription twice since I got it.

I think what the deal is, is you can update your platinum card through navionics.com, but you cannot activate the updates card with a platinum chip. Navionics confrimed that bass pro's description is incorrect. I'm not trying to be argumentative at all, just trying to help others out if they're in the same situation.

That is way I asked how old your card is.
The 16 GB cards can be updated directly.

ALL versions of Navionics cards have the exact same maps if updated the same day.
What you see on the Navionics Web App (your example) or Mobile App is the exact same data.

Just pick the card you want. The Navionics+ version is the most versitile since it is not regional specific like the Hotmaps Premium and Hotmaps Platinum.

I was hoping to pick up one of the Hotmaps Platinums that Three Rivers has on sale for 149.99, since i will never travel out of the East region, and get this kind of detail.

All new purchases include a year of Freshest Data Updates.
All you do is register the card, do a Freshest Data update to start the yearly subscription and you will have the exact same map as the Web App.
The registration is creating an account and downloading/installing Chart Installer on your computer.
That software is your connection to the Navionics server.

The card will lead you through the process when you put it in your computer.
You have to UNLOCK the card for updates. LOCK it when not in your computer.

If you don't have a cable modem, expect a few hours to do an update.
When I had the slowest DSL connection, it took 6-8 hours for an update.
    Dial-up may take much longer.
I just updated my Platinum card this morning at the library and it took about 45 minutes.
I updated my Navioincs+ card and it took less than 5 minutes.
