2001 Evinrude Ram Ficht Quit Running & Won't Start

My Evinrude quit running while running down the lake at about 40mph.
No warning buzzer or noise....just shut down.
Refuses to start but sounds like it wants to.
Checked the fuses - all ok. The plugs are sooty and oil fouled. I recently noticed the tach jump up often while idling. Can't find a technician to help right now because here in Ct everyone is pulling boats and winterizing. Any ideas for self help? Thanks a lot!

Put a new set of plugs in it and try it. sounds like plugs are fouled and these motors are tempermental about plugs. Follow the indexing procedure. Someone else will be along with more help soon.

It sounds as if you do not have the Diagnostic Software or a repair manual, it is hard to troubleshoot that motor without it. So you could start by attaching a timing light to each plug wire spin her and see if you have spark. The CPS (Crank Position Sensor) is a possibility since she shut down suddenly. It sounds as if your are getting fuel since the plugs are wet. The 40V's is something to check as well. More than likely the EMM has a code you could pull which may point you to the exact problem. I think I would try and get a tech. to look at it, they may put you ahead of the winterizing croud.
