    Fuel Gauge??

My fuel gauge just stopped work, its reading empty, so I start looking for a replacement and then I'm asked if I was sure it was the guage and not the sending unit. So I used a jumper wire and jumped the pink and black wires to the guage and when I did this the guage needle jumped, so I was told that this indicated a bad sending unit, so I had sending unit overnighted from Florida it got here today, I get home install the sending unit hook the two wires for the sending unit and I hit the key and the needle is still reading empty!! So what did I miss? or is it the guage?? HELP!!

    Thanks

Mine is'nt accurate enough to pay much attention to, I just mark levels with a indelible marker on the tank and check the levels when I add fuel.

Won't work with under-seat tanks... Might need the gauge....no idea...

do you have power at the sending unit? Check with a test light.

Fuel gauges are as worthless as speedometers in boats. I've never had one that was accurate. I use the eyeball method.

You can't see the fuel tank in a 198, I use a smart gauge, but found out that the smart gauge isn't as smart as it is cracked up to be

    This may help.

I fixed my gauge, it was a bad connection at the sending unit. It was either the splice in the ground or the pink, I got lucky. To access the tank, take all the screws out from behind the seats, they are on top of the rear deck. then take all the screws out down each side of the seats. All the seats will come out in a unit. Just slide the unit towards the passenger side so it can be lifted up past the throttle control, then set in on the rear deck. About a ten minute job with a power drill.

I would make sure the ground wire to the sending unit is good. Check it with a test light.
