No..it just needs a clear shot to the bottom of the hull, so it can drain back to the bilage area!
I had a guy tell me that it needed to be longer because of water getting in the rod lockers.
there is no way that water could get in the rod lockers unless the bilage area is full of water all the way to your rod lockers...The water will run straight out of the drain tube to the bottom of the hull...

I'm hoping whichever recess you purchase, it will have sufficient tubing.
A good while back, there were posts about this issue...There had been instances where the tube was too short, and water did drain into the rod lockers... In some models (or all, I am not sure) the front of the rod lockers are open, and a too-short drain tube allowed water to get to the carpet in the very front of the rod lockers...and it absorbed into the rest of the locker. This has since been corrected in the factory installed recesses. Longer tubing took care of the problem.
You can always run to Lowe's or Home Depot for tubing if you think the supplied tubing is too short.
I'm not trying to hijack this thread but it got me to thinking. My 04 187 dcx will get wet carpet in the front storage lockers on the floor. I'm pretty sure the lids are working properly and that the water in the carpet behind the front deck in front of the seats is wicking through the carpet and moving to the other carpeted areas in the front of the boat,ie. the rod locker and the storage compartment. I say this because I think that the carpet on the floor of the front storage lockers is the same piece that covers the floor in front of the seats. Does this sound right? Anybody else have this issue?
I will fish in rain anytime and the issue for me is that if it is very much rain at all when I get home I have to empty those front lockers and put in some fans for 24 hrs. and then put it all back. If I don't do this the consequence is really irritating as if this wasn't irritating enough. This issue is compounded if I'm away from home for several days on a TX. By the time I get home I've really got a headache!
My next boat will be a new or almost new 210 and I will really be disappointed if this problem still exists.
Can anyone identify with this or am I just ranting?

As mentioned above, if you are concerned, just go to the hardware store or Home Depot or Lowes etc. and get a longer run of hose and snake it down through all the foam... I also recommend using a metal screw type clamp to make sure it does not fall off from a rough water ride later on...
Have never heard of water in carpet in cockpit wicking into rod lockers. If that were the case, everyone would be having the problem. The compartments are totally separate from one another...you would have to see the topcap mold. Your issue is more likely a too short tubing from front pedestal base into bilge. This was a past issue and has been corrected....
Still need one of these to make the job go quicker.
Lea, thanks for the feedback. Did you mean the tube connected to my aftermarket recessed foot pedal tray or the pedestal base as you said? I just had that tray out yesterday and it has a tube on it but it never dawned on me that that might be the problem. It sounds highly likley since no one else is complaining.
Gee thanks. It just so happens that I have plenty of tubing in my barn so I will go out today and pull that tray and get a longer piece installed ASAP. I will be at the lake Wednesday through Sunday so maybe I will have this concern corrected!

Either could be a culprit. I have never been able to see what is attached where, but Duane Harper was somehow able to get his arm in there with a camera and get photos. I think, in his case, it was the pedestal drain...but I am old and it is ever so slightly possible that I mis-remember which drain was the issue....
In any case, the drain tube does need to be fed down well past the front opening to the locker carpet...

Ah ha! The tube on the foot pedal tray is the culprit I believe. It's clearly a wee bit short. The other one appears to be sufficiently long enough.
I just replaced the transducer on my bow unit yesterday and apparently I'm not done yet. I was reading the manual and decided to go out to the boat and fiddle with it a little bit when I discovered I have no navigation icon on my menu screen. I guess I 'll head over to the sonar forum and see if anybody has any suggestions.

Thank yall for all the good info. Getting a MK 101 Maxxum Pro and Lowrance 28hd on console, 520 networked on the bow and of course the recessed tray installed.
