Help in determining why motor blew.

I blew my 2000 200 hp Ficht. When the dealer put the new powerhead on and did the diagnostics they could not come up with a reason why the old one blew. The injector tested ok as did the oil pump and there were no fault codes in the computer. It looks like the #6 piston detonated before or after the rod broke. I think the piston went and then the rod broke. It doesn't appear there was a melt down. It almost looks like one side of the piston went or something failed on one side of the wrist pin as one side has a hunk of piston still hooked to the pin and the other side has nothing. The biggest piece of piston is about golf ball size. When the motor went I lost power and then the clattering started which to me would mean the rod didn't break first. I had to run it a little way to get to safe enough water where I could go on my electric. (Maybe 1 minute) Things got beat up in there from that. Since diagnostics and testing of componets after didn't find anything wrong can I assume that what the dealer is telling me is right? They say it was just part failure. Either the piston or rod broke. I don't want a costly repeat of a blown engine because of a bad componet not working. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You may have lost a locating pin on the piston which enabled the ring to spin and hooked a port and the rest is history. Once the Piston locked down the motor was still reving and something else had to give so the rod snaped.

It would be good insurance to replace the fuel injector on the #6 cylinder and put a BRP made oil lift pump on it.

Water pump should be replaced + thermostats and seals.

Timing verification should be performed both mechanical and electronic.

Clean oil tank out + new oil filter.

If fuel is suspect drain and start over.

Check boat fuel system for restriction with vacuum gauge.

Spec is no more than 4 in HG on vacuum test.
