    a little big problem

    Ser. # G04909188 Mod # RJ115PLSIF

Got the gas leak fixed. They also added a new power pack because it was still bogging down. Now the boat doesn't bog down anymore :)

However, since getting it fixed it doesn't want to idle below 1,000 rpm. It will die if you give it too much throttle too fast. If you go smooth and easy the motor runs just fine. Also will idle along at 1,000 rpm without a hiccup. If it drops below that it wants to die, can push in the key and keep it running some of the time but not all of the time.

The plugs are two week old champions, was considering putting back in ngk's, know the previous owner had problems with the champions fouling.

Where should I start? Have emailed the shop that did the work and they haven't gotten back to me, going to have to call them tomorrow.

Re: a little big problem (cubswin)

Sounds to me like the low speed/idle circuits are clogged up with gunk. I would give the carbs a thorough cleaning and stick with the Champion plugs...

Think I could run some seafoam through the tank and clean them out as I run?

I had to take the carb's apart and clean them to get my engine to respond properly, I tried everything possible with no luck. Go ahead and try seafoam, but if it doesn't work, you'll have to take the carb's apart.

PS. Seafoam did not help my problem at all. But give it a try, you have nothing to loose.

Re: a little big problem (TritonAL 186)

Thats kinda what I was thinking. I'm just frustrated because the boat was gone for three weeks, and I've only owned it for five. Hell I just want to fish, not constantly having to have things fixed.

Figure I'll try some seafoam, change out the plugs either to champs or ngk's and see how it runs. Worse case I have to do some more things to it, or send it off to the shop again. At least with it running somewhat bad I'm home a little more. Only fished sat, sunday, and today. Hopefully tomorrow and friday while I run some seafoam through it.

Hey don't feel to bad , I have a brand new Triton and I haven't had the change to fish out of it since Nov. of last year, now that really s_ _ ks. If it's not work related, it's been the weather.

PS. I'm sure you'll figure out the problem. Good Luck.
Oh, by the way I'll keep using the Champion Spark Plugs, they seem to be better on those engines.

If you are gonna try the Seafoam do it like this . Get one of the 5 gal small portable tanks and put 1 gallon of gas in it . If you have oil injection it is ok but if you have to mix put the proper amount of OIL in the gas. Then add the whole Quart of Seafoam to the gas. Run the motor on muffs until you know the Seafoam is in the entire system. Motor will be hot and turn motor off and let it sit overnight to allow it time to penetrate the old buildup of carbon in the engine. The next day run the motor until you run the gallon of gas out. Replace the gas tank to the boat and run motor until you know you have all the Seafoam gas out of system then replace your Plugs with New ones. If you are gonna get results from the seafoam Shock treatment you can now take it to lake and run your motor. Also if it helps the motor from now on every other tank add Seafoam and you will keep a Clean fuel system.

If the fuel system has a blockage, the best way to clean it is to remove the carbs and manually clean it, also the 60 degree V-4 had some issues with the EET bracket pulling back too far and allowing the idle timing to drop to low.

Does the motor cough or spit before it dies or does it just slowly die out?

Re: a little big problem (RUSTY63)

It drops down in rpm and then dies, can hear it. Really think its more of a slow die off. Just keeps dropping down in rpm and then dies at about 600 rpm. If I push in the key it will usually keep running. Took it out to the shop yesterday, so hopefully they can fix it up.

They just had it to fix another problem and then this started right after I got it back. Probably something related is what they thought, I believe.
