Evinrude XD-100 Oil Question for E-tec

Can someone explain this. I just bought an E-tec 225 HO and will be picking up the boat and motor next month. Does this statement mean that it uses TCW3 regular oil from the factory but I can have the computer programmed to accept the XD-100T oil? What benefits are there with XD-100T oil?

I could not even find any mention to this type of oil on Evinrude's web site.

Statement is listed below. I just want some help understanding what this all means.

Evinrude E-TEC uses up to 75% less than typical 2-stroke carbureted engines and up to 50% less oil than competitive direct injection engines (when run with Evinrude/Johnson XD 100T oil with optional dealer programming of the Engine Management Module, versus normal TCW3 oil).

The E-Tec can run XD-30, 50 or 100, you will use less oil if you have the motor programed to run the XD-100.

Does anyone know what is involved with getting the motor re-programmed?

Then where can you buy the XD-100 Oil and does anyone know of it's cost?

See your dealer, with the click of the lap top your motor will be programed for XD-100.

Prices vary, I have seen it for 20 bucks a gallon up to 35 bucks a gallon BUT, you use about half as much.

Re: Evinrude XD-100 Oil Question for E-tec (RUSTY63)

Dealer programmed my e-tech to run XD-100 oil. He said the first two hours of operation the motor will use more oil so a lower grade oil is O.K. to use. He filled the tank with XD-50 oil, almost two gallons. I purchased two gallons of the XD-100, because now the tank is half full now and I'm planning a week trip to Havasu. Do I wait till the tank is near empty then refill with XD-100 or do I just refill now. I was thinking about waiting till the tank is low. I assume it would be O.K. to mix the two oils.

    Thanks for any input.

In addition, can you buy the XD-100 in bulk to save some dough? Can't find it anywhere in more than a one gallon container.

I think your dealer got a bit confused if that is exactly what he told you.

The E-TEC will use extra oil for initial few hours but it is calibrated for the type of oil the computer (EMM) is programmed for. If it is set for XD-100 oil, ONLY use XD-100. Your owners manual says if you have to use a different oil in an emergency, run it slow and change out as soon as possible.

Siince you have XD-50 in it now, have your dealer reprogram it for the regular oil and when it's gone, set it back.

Yes but only if your EMM is programmed for non XD 100 oil.
