need your opinions (sorry long post)

I have a question about extended warranties. I purchased a used boat from a dealer who is a sponsor on this site. when i bought the boat the told me that i had 1 year factory warranty left on the motor. i also purchased a 2 year extended warranty at that time, should be 3 years total, correct me if im wrong. I had a major engine problem this past weekend, first problem with this motor. I contacted the warranty company like i was told to do and they said i am not covered because the warranty has expired. they said it expired 7-06. I did the dispute clam with the warranty company and they called me back and said that the dealer wrote the extended coverage plan up as used and did not show that there was 1 year left on the factory warranty and that my extended coverage started the day i bought the boat. I have contacted the dealer I bought the boat from and they said they didn't know there was a year left on the factory warranty and they made the extended warranty out as no factory warranty left. I have proof from the engine manufacture that shows a factory warranty was in effect when i bought the boat, until 09-05. I called the dealer back today and advised them of the situation and that i was not given full credit for the extended warranty because of a clerical error on there part. what do you guys think am i barking up the wrong tree or am i doing it the right way. should the dealer take care of this or am i on my own. this is the 2nd boat from this same dealer. drove along way because they took good care of me the first time i bought a boat from them. I have also sent a few other people to them as well. ok lets have it i'm a big boy so i can take what ever you have to say..... thanks

Have a Lawyer write them a Letter and tell them what the plans are to get a wrong made right. If they don't Correct the problem then do what you have to do. I Hate this crap where Warrantees are just a Ploe to get more money on a Purchase.

In my opinion, the dealer messed up and they need to make it right. If it comes out of their pocket, so be it. If they indicated that they sold you a motor with a 3 year warranty (1 factory, 2 aftermarket), they are responsible...period!!!

Contact a lawyer if you get no where with the dealer.

My question is, how did you know there was still a 1 year warranty left on the motor, unless the dealer that sold it to you told you that??

just an update still waiting on a reply from the dealer. i called at 4pm yesterday and they said they didnt get a chance to look at my file , told me they would do it first thing Thursday morning. waited until 1 pm today and still no phone call so I called them at 1:30 and asked for the person I had talked to on Wed. and got a different person and they said they were just getting ready to call the warranty co. and would call me back in a 10 to 15 min. How long do I give them before I call them back and ask for the owner of the dealership .... I dont want to cause a big stink but I think i am getting the run around on this still. I am still a customer but i keep getting put off for other customers. i feel like im not cared about on this matter.. thanks for the input i was hoping i wouldnt have to resort to that but it looks bleak at this point..

I would give them a little time to work on it, since it is quite the unique mess they have created. I'm sure no one wants to take ownership of this one.

If it were me and I had the time, I would give them until the end of the day, then escalate it.

mike i was told when i bought the boat that i had 1 year of factory warranty left. I also had my home marina check it by running the serial number and it shows the factory warranty was in effect until 09-05. I have the proof now its just getting someone to do the right thing . I don't care who that is I just have a $30,000 row boat that needs fixed asap.... I was supposed to leave for a week long KY. Lake trip on 04-20-07 but that's not going to happen. this is very frustrating. sorry to rant but i know this is the right place to be.

I would expect the dealer to correct the situation or honor the warranty. I would also expect the decisions to take time. The knee jerk response is to deny fault, and try to get out of the situation. Let him call the independent warranty company and fully come to grip with the situation. I definately would give it some time before involving lawyers. Once that happens, it becomes a lawyer's battle of what is written down on contracts. I hope it all works out for you.

I would take a trip there in person, standing face to face he can't tell you "I'll call you back in 10-15". just my 2cts

    Hope it all works out.

Just curious... What's wrong with your motor?

I'm just wondering if this will soon turn into a fuss about whether or not the problem is actually a warranty issue.

Re: Just curious... What's wrong with your motor? (25xs)

I'm not ready to put the name out there yet, however I live in Ohio as you can see and I drove 7 hours southeast to get this boat and my prior boat. They have always taken very good care of me in the past now lets hope they make this right.. 25XS as for whats wrong we can only speculate right now until its tore down but there was a zero on the #5 cylinder when we did a compression check.
