    B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV

I cannot believe that they wrote an article abouth a 190 Blazer with a "underpowered 175 Suzuki Four Stroke" on a boat rated for a 200. What an opportunity for a great article about a fast 19ft boat with a 200. Should have put a 200XS on it, now that would have been an interesting boat test.

Re: B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV (BassChamp)

Agree 100% !!! Thumbs Down to Bass&Walleye for a second article on a 4 stroke powered Blazer that didn't perform to it's potential. The last one was on a 180 Pro V with a 150 four banger. They said right in that article that the boat was designed with lighter 2 stroke 150's in mind and that it would perform much better with such. Why don't they test these boats with the motors they are designed for? Anyway, that's my 2 cents...

Guys as much as I agree with you about how much better the performance would have been with a different motor I have to point out that it was a VERY positive article toward Blazer and will do nothing but help the brand. It was overall a very good article.

Re: B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV (Blazenzeek)

The plant re-opened today after being shut down last week for the 4th. I headed over to get some orders in and handle some other biz and, walked in to a very surpised Keith and Lonnie. They had just gone thru last week's stack of mail and found 2 copies of the new B&WB with the Suzuki powered 190 on the cover and they were just blown away. No one at Blazer had a clue the article was coming much less any idea it was going to be on the cover! I gave the article a quick scan and from what little I read they were very complimnetary of the boat though the speed is a bit disappointing. The jury is still out I guess on trying to make a 4stroke work on a bass boat, so far the speed results have been a bit under par.

I will say the Suzuki folks have been very good to work with since we signed with them back in December. Their engines will always primarily be used on the bay boats and they have sold rather well these last 6 months. They asked us to build that 190 for them back in January and they had it on display in their booth at the Classic in February down in Orlando. They say it got a lot of interest, I had to be in TN that weekend to work a show with C & O or I would have been down there. Now that I think about it.......Orlando would have been a lot warmer.......maybe I can get Todd to do some shows down there!

Bottom line is, any ink is "good ink", just wish there had been a 7 in there intead of that 6 but, who knows, one day they may get these 4 bangers to run.

Re: B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV (Blazer Dave)

Great article...but there were some things in the article that surprised me.

    1) "Propshaft was 3" above the pad." Dang!!!! That doesn't sound right. Only had a 6" jack plate.

    2) "Insulated storage under the seats?" Did they mean just under the center step or do the 19s have storage under the driver and pasanger seat? If under both, is Blazer doing that on the 202s nd 210s now too??? Sounds like a good idea.

Re: B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV (Blazenzeek)

Both were typos. There are typos in just about every article in all magazines, but that article was very good for Blazer and will sell boats.

I don't have a problem at all explaining to potential buyers the propshaft typo (should have been 3" below pad) or that the center seat is the one with the storage under it. I don't think the way the current driver/passenger seat are made would allow for under seat storage. You wouldn't be able to tilt the seat very far without hitting the console. And, if you just wanted the bottom to tilt, you'd have to leave a gap big enough to be able to do that between the back and the bottom. I never even used the storage under the middle seat in my 202. I always forgot it was there.

That center storage holds a 18pack of Coors tall boys perfectly......

It's good for lazy summer days out with your buddies.....

So what was the performance on that Suzuki powered Blazer? I haven't seen that B&WB yet.

Top speed was 61.something...I don't have the article in front of me.

I don't mean to bash Bass&Walleye, I love that magazine. I've been a subscriber since 1997. But I would like to see more tests, (on the Blazer's especially), where the boat is running the motor & horsepower it's rated for...

61 is about 1 MPH faster than a Ranger 188 with the same motor.

Bass & Walleye said it was bumping the rpm limiter, it would have been nice to put a bigger prop on to see how fast it would really go with the right set-up.

I wish Blazer would push to test a 202DC with a 300XS, 250Xs, or 225 Pro Sport XS. Or test a 190DC with a 200EFI Merc with standard gearcase but have a sportmaster there also to test just to see the difference.

Right on Chad, now you're talkin...

I also want to see em test a new 202/250hpdi or 202/300hpdi combo. I wonder how the 250 & 300 Yammie's would stack up against the 250 & 300 Merc's with them all pushing the 202 hull....It would be an interesting head to head comparison.

Re: B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV (BassinBlazer)

Bassin the Yamaha would not do very good on top end vs the Mercury. Would be between 5 to 10 mph slower. The two things that kill the top end for Yamaha is the gears and rev limiter. Until this are addressed by Yamaha they will always take a back seat to Mercury on the light fast boats. Now on a lead sled they will shine!

I don't know about the gears, but I believe they raised the rev limit on the Yammies this year....I agree that the Merc's would be faster but I bet the Yamaha's would'nt be too far off. JMO...

Re: B&WB Mag Article - 190 ProV (BassinBlazer)

Just depends on what far means to you..

Light boats and large hp, you need tall gears. Merc has the 1.62's and Hammer has only the 1.75. In the 300 hp class the Merc has 6700+ and the hammer has 6200. You have to run a very large prop on the hammer and large props don't run as good as the smaller ones. On my storker (hammer 300 hpdi) I run a 32 txp that has been worked to a 33 and my best speed is only 95. Same boat with a mercury (300x) running a 28 can hit speeds of 105. That is far for me!

Ok, Ok, I guess it is relative and you are right 10mph is a good bit faster, especially on water...I still want to see a shootout in B&WB...
