    VRO pump

I trying to help a friend out on a 92 evinrude 40hp. The oil injection was removed when he bought the boat. The boat cranks and idles fine and it revs up fine out of gear. As soon as you take off and the nose starts to break over it starts to bog down and stall. If you push the choke in while it is bogging down it will pick up and run until you let off the choke. I have read where people has disconnected the oil side of the vro pumps and simply cut the oil line and plugged it. Hoever done this actually removed the oil section of the vro pump that has the electrical plug and fitting. Could it be sucking air in the line where that piece supposed to be on there. Ihave replaced the gas line from the tank to the engine and checked the other hoses and they were ok. Sorry for the long post but let me know if any of yall have had any experiance with this. Model # is MTE40ELEN
    Thanks

That scenario is very typical of dirty carbs. If the pump wasn't pumping fuel, for whatever reason, there wouldn't be any fuel for the primer to work either.

    Re: VRO pump (Dhadley)

I beleive the pump is pumping fuel but its also picking up air where the oil side of the pump is missing.

Is the oil side actually missing or does the motor have the fuel pump conversion kit on it that looks like a "VRO" pump with no oil module?

I believe its actually missing. I can see where it looks like it used to be mounted on there. I will go look again and maybe get a pic of it.
    Thanks

    A picture's worth 1000 words!

They show that it is the"VRO" replacement pump kit, not a disassembled "VRO".

Listen to Dhadley, you have carb problems.

Thought I would let ya know. Yall were right on the carb problem. When the guy rebuilt them he put the float in upside down on the lower carb. Took the carb apart and fixed problem. Runs like a new now. Thanks for the help.
