    Intruder Rebuild

    Hey Guys, Quick Q:

Currently have my Intruder block sent out to be welded, h2o getting in #1.

Motor had all 6 holes bored to .030.

Is it necessary to have the resleeved hole (#1) bored to .030 or can I leave it go standard?

This will save on some shop $$.

    Thanks!

Am I right to assume that you had a rod go through the block?

NO, experienced a "common" problem with the 60 degree blocks. Some will develop a hair-line crack and allow water into #1. It cracks along a cast line. So my motor was still running, just not on all 6 cyclinders. I am keeping #'s 2-6 the same, may replace rings based on mechanic's inspection.

So bore or no bore for #1?

It's fine to have different hole sizes in your block, even the factory manual states this. Why spend money unnecessarily? Besides, you may gall that standard size cylinder some day, and you'll have the material to bore it to .030 if needed!!

It doesn't make but a couple more hp than the other cylinders so it won't be a problem but if it is down already and all the other holes are being bored I see no reason that it should be all that expensive to do one more.

    Re: Intruder Rebuild (Neveredge)

No..he said the other holes were already bored to .030 over standard. Now #1 went out
so it had to be sleeved. His question was ... Do I have it bored to .030 over like the rest
of them or to standard size. I say to standard size so if something happens again,..then
it could be bored .030 over to match the rest and save the power head one more time.

Hey!!! I just went over 700 posts!!!!

Neveredge was right tho. no need to spend the extra$ to bore that one.

Just what I wanted to hear!!!! Great point about being able to bore later down the road. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. So #1 WILL stay standard!

What whould you do about the other pistons?
    Buy new ones?
    Replace rings on existing ones?
    Nothing?

Anything else while I have it torn down?

    Boyeson reeds?

About 200 hours on them now.

Very curious to hear your opinions...

Here is a link to the info on the water getting into the block on these engines. http://www.mar-fab.com/MarFab_...9.pdf

Kurt does all of our block work for us. They are a great bunch of guys down there.

I would check your pistions to see if they are out of round or not. Go with all new ring sets. Im not a fan of Boyeson reeds. Just make sure you wash out all the oil ports very well when you get the block back.

If your have 200 hrs on the current rebuild, I would definitely re-ring each cylinder, but
there's no need to replace pistons if they aren't worn or damaged in some way. As far as the Boyesen reeds you mentioned.....I think the fiber reeds are the way to go.

You can sleeve it std and install a std piston set.
