    Plugs for my Evinrude

I've got a 150 Ocean Pro, 96 model Evinrude. Went down to the local boat fixin' place and they are wanting to charge $10 a pop for NGK bpz8hs-10 spark plugs. He said anything wih a z in it was expensive and this motor required the "z". I looked and Champion has several recommended. QL77's, QL78's and 5939's. Anybody got the lowdown on this. I really don't feel like paying $60 to change my plugs.

Recommended plug for that engine is QL78YC. Set gap to .030"

I was kinda wondrin' what the difference was between the plugs listed for that motor. Is one hotter than the other? Basically the same performance from Champions and NGK?

Don't run the NGK's in your motor run the Champs. NGK's=good for Mercs Bad for Johnson. CM

    Hotter isn't necessarily better.

They appear to be similar (if not the same) heat range.

Champion is a suppressor-type resistor, NGK is an inductive-resistor type. Supposedly the suppressor function helps prevent ignition noise from putting the powerpack in S.L.O.W. when there's no overheat etc...

I also know from a customers experience that some of the OMC powerpacks will cause an engine to run like hell with the NGK plugs. He listens to me now
