Navionics charting questions - need help with charting?

The Insight Planner waypoint symbol magnifies to 'very large' when I approach it with my cursor. This makes it impossible to do any accurate work in the vicinity of any current waypoint. How can I turn off this auto-magnify function of the waypoints on my chart? Running Windows 7.

I haven't yet used Insight Planner. Are you using Navionics mapping or Insight?

I need the best chip for the mississippi river for an HDS unit. We fish pools 9-19 what chip covers them all? From what I see online they only cover a few northern pools.

Also, Sonar Charts is a NEW function so may not have a lot for that particular area just yet but basically it allows you as a user to record sonar data and upload it to the Navionics system which they will in return translate it to new mapping. All they really need is a gps and sonar reading recorded on a sd card. If you view the WebApp to see their maps in your area, you can view Sonar Charts by clicking the circular button on the bottom left corner. May or may not have any data for it yet but they will soon. I know they're backed up by a thousand or so and are working overtime to get them available. It's just a matter of time.

I have a Hotmaps Premium East SD card that is over two years old so it is not eligible for the discount. I am looking at purchasing the Platinum + for my newly purchased HDS7. I like the satellite overlay. How much is it going to cost me after the one year of "free" updates?

If you want the satellite overlay, yes, you will want to buy the Platinum. After a year, to renew Frehest data and SonarCharts with it will cost $99. Just be sure to register the chart in 60 days and do an update so you activate the year of freshest data and download the latest sonarcharts

I live in Saskatchewan Canada. Are there any maps available fom anyone that I can use with my HDS 8's I can't seem to find anything. I would obviously like to have something with contour lines and the ability to use structure scan overly.

Thanks Paul. That is what I thought as long as they keep up the 50% program. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing additional that I had missed.

I have gone to the navionics site and see on the web app there shows new contours for my chip. I have done the download to the chip and when I put it in my HDS 8 gen 2 it just shows the old information from the chip like it was when it was new. For example, on the Ohio river around Evansville Indiana when the chip was new there were very few contour lines, now on the web app it shows lots of detail. After the download today, I put the chip in my HDS and it still only shows the very few contours that the chip had when new. I only have this one chip in my HDS units so it is not reading any other chip and it is set to read Navionics not Lowrance. I have the latest software on all units. Not sure if I need to adjust a setting on the HDS, or if the new information is just not being written to the card. When I do the download, the Navionics site sees my card and knows what card I have and I have almost 300 days left to update. As the update goes on the progress bar slowly moves and finally says download complete you can remove card. Im lost. Any suggestions. Thanks

Did you turn on the Fish n Chips / Sonar Charts layer? Look for fish n chips and enable that

Thank you Kirt, I just got off phone with Navionics and they told me I have to check the Fish n chips box. They also told me the navigational information like channel markers might not show up when the fish n chips box is marked. To run you need to un check the fish n chip box. Does this sound correct?? Hi folks,
I just downloaded the navionics app for my iPhone. It's a really cool app. I don't have any other chart or plotter, just the app on my phone so far. I have been playing around with it trying to learn it.

The one thing I wanted to do with it was to enter in some GPS numbers and have the waypoints marked. I haven't found out how to do that yet, if there is a way. It was mentioned to mark a spot and then go in and edit the numbers, but I haven't figured out how to edit the numbers. I did register the app and download a map of my general area. Under the search function I found the place to enter GPS #'s and it shows than on the map, but that mark doesn't stay.

So how can I enter in numbers and have my waypoints marked? Can this be done in the app? Do I need to upgrade it to navionics + ?

From the main page. Click the magnify glass in the upper left hand corner.



Next, Click on the Lat/Long button.

thanks for taking the time to get the pics and post them. When I do this and click show on map, a little black box shows up and marks the spot. However, when I touch the screen, the black box goes away and there is no marker left over. How do I put a thumbtack on that spot without having to be right there?

Rob, this should do exactly what you're looking for.

From the LAT/LONG page click "Show on Map" button



The spot will be marked by the tiny arrow on the bottom of the box, in the middle of the screen. Click the button on the right hand of the box.



Next, click Add button



Walla, your waypoint is created.
