Its a 98 Tahoe. How do I hold the pulley in place to turn the big nut to get the fan and fan clutch off? This thing is kicking my butt.

If it was anything like my Dodge, had to use a crows foot wrench on an impact gun to get it busted loose. Might also try spraying the threads with WD-40 or brake free.
You need to weld the pulley so it can't move.
Eric i leave the belt on it then pop it once with a air hammer, have never had 1 not come off using this method... I install it the same way. Should just be a single hit or 2 and its loose. They do make a special tool for multiple applications but have never purchased it...You may be able to rent it from autozone. Also off is counter clockwise.

my dodge diesel was reverse threaded on the fan clutchand a bear to get off, using a hammer to tap the wrench as mentioned is what finally broke mine loose
Putting a clown in the castle doesn't make him a king, it turns the castle into a circus

Ive put two on my 99 and don't rember if it's reverse threads. Kinda seems like it is.
You can use a air chisel that what i used on my silverados pump.
Thanks for the advice guys. You too Hunt![]()
