    Shipping Questions

Instead of Hi-jacking the other shipping thread, I can just make my own.
Whenever I ship anything, rods, reels, baits, etc. I am VERY leary of what they do to your packages once you leave. I guess I can say Ive been lucky and only had one thing break, (maybe not, it was a $300 custom rod) In the other thread someone mentioned that media mail is inspected, does this mean they open your box and go through your things? If this is true, How can you trust they package everything how you wanted it.

Maybe Im just a huge worry wart and think too much about little things, but does anyone have any ideas?

    Re: Shipping Questions (f2a)

I cant speak for the USPS or FedEx but I worked for UPS for a long time and those guys have ZERO time to open packages and inspect them. It is actually against shipping regs to open anything intentionally once it is in their system.

It is suppose to be that the shipping company can either ask for an inspection before they take it into their system and if you refuse they will say no, but once it is accepted into their system they have basically "approved" the contents and packaging as OK and from there they are not to open anything intentionally. It has been a few years since I worked there so it could have changed but I really doubt it.

It is definitely a little shady when you file a claim and they say "improper packaging". That is horse crap if you push because the Driver or Customer Counter folks are to inspect the packaging of the shipment when they take it from the customer.

    Re: Shipping Questions (packfan)

I have shipped things from Titanium valves, high dollar crankshafts, rods and pistons, to a bottle of booze, fishing rods and electronics. NEVER had one thing damaged. It doesn't matter if you ship it or someone ships it to you----if it's not packaged properly you run the risk of damage-- (that includes the outside of the package, is it possible for a machine to tear it open?) If you ship it freight---the package could end up in a trailer with 800 tires, paint, or anything. UPS or FED>X has always been good for me.
