    A-Rig Set-up rod/reel/line

My good friend that I fish with occasionally is looking for one. His budget is 400 ish give or take a little he's just a weekend warrior fisherman. I'm just tossing mine on existing stuffing got so I really don't know what a good set up for it is. Suggestions please thanks in advance!

I put mine on my Veritas MH with a Curado. Looks like any kind of reel/rod combo such as that would work.

Mono? 65 to 80lb braid for me, I'd just as soon not loose to many. I make the rigs, but I don't make the jig head and swimbaits.

Maybe he's afraid they'll see the line.

    Re: A-Rig Set-up rod/reel/line (dirtmonkey)

    Use braid!!

If you hang it up you'll wish you werent throwing mono. You can pull steadily and straigten out hooks...even breaking snap swivels is better than losing the entire rig. Ive ruined several jigheads already but it's better than losing the rig, all 5 jigheads, and your swimbaits

I couldn't agree more!! Why wouldn't any good 7 foot medium/heavy or heavy action flipping rod work? All the specialized rods today crack me up,one for froggin, one for flippin blah blah blah.Makes me wonder how dad and i caught so many damn fish 30 years ago on our "cheap junk" that we used for everything.

It's not that those rods won't work, but casting and retrieving heavy baits is much easier and less taxing on your equipment when you use rods and reels that are designed to do just that.

I have thrown the A-rig on my flippin stick, but it casts so much better on my swimbait rod. At the end of the day, I don't have nearly as much fatigue when using the swimbait rod either. That being said, I'm throwing it on a Dobyns 795 SBMT and a Curado 300E with 25 lb CXX mono.
