    1999 Johnson 90 HP questions

Hello..I have been lurking for a while and have finally made my first bass boat purchase...I have had jon boats with small hp tiller motors but this is my first experience with oil injection etc........

I bought a 99 Xpress X56 (18') with a 99 Johnson 90 HP on it (model J90PLEEB, serial G 04663447) I was wanting to know if this boat has the oil warning buzzer on it and if so, how can i test it? I wish it had the system check at start up but it does not. can this option be put on this boat? would it already be wired for it and only need the gauge installed?

Is there anything that i should really check out before my maiden voyage? What about the oil resevoir...is there a shelf life on oil? It is about half full and i dont know how long it has been in there...is it ok? I changed the lower unit oil as soon as i got it, just for piece of mind. I guess i am just looking for any info on anything i should look for or check out and if i can install a system check on this boat/motor

Any ideas what i should be looking at as far as speeds with this setup? and the WOT RPM range it should be operating in?

...thanks for all the help...and sorry for so many questions...

    Chad

Re: 1999 Johnson 90 HP questions (chadw)

If the boat has set for about a year, use fresh oil. The warning horn should sound for a second when the key is turned on, if it does'nt, the horn may be faulty. If you do not have a system check gauge, there shopuld be a driver module on the wire harness, it's a little black box that tells the warning horn what to do. If you want, install a system check guage instead of the driver module. 5500 is the w.o.t. throttle rpm on the motor. To tell if the horn is working, turn the key to "on", do not start the engine. Take the brown lead on the cylinder head and touch the engine harness end to ground, the horn should sound. Follow the same for the oil tank, oil pump. If the horn does not go off, start looking at the horn, driver,or system chk guage if you have one.
