What they do in our area is when a new Walmart opens they a GREAT selection, quality products, good prices, etc.

A few months doen the road all the local independents go out of business because they can't compete price wise.

Shortly after the independents close Walmarts selection and quality turns to crap.

I've seen it in several areas, but I suppoise it's just a coincidence. (Yea, right!)

Ours went from having a few decent quality reels to nothing but clamshell junk and the fishing section went from 2+ isles to about a half of an isle and 25% of that is Saltwater stuff. Makes sense I guess. We have 6 lakes within 30 minutes and the coast is several hours away.

First page when I searched, has Skeets rod! http://www.walmart.com/browse/...11667 I'm not by any means a big Walmart shopper when it comes to fishing gear, but the website does not have some of the things that our local store has.

They are not all the same. I guess it depends on the manager. Anytime you’re near a good lake its worth looking. I was in Scottsboro AL (Guntersville) WalMart last November and picked up two A-rigs for $17.99, also some nice looking jigs that I’ve never seen before. They had Skeet rods and some nice reels as well. Was in one near Port Clinton (Erie) and was blown away at the selection. Went to one on my sons cubscout trout-a-re trip in southwest VA and they had tons of trout stuff and more guns (new) than any of the local gun shops.

Re: Wal-Mart improving quality of their fishing tackle?? (191 champ)

My local one has never sold Yum Money Minnows, but they had several packs in a closeout bin for only 1.97

They used to be able to order some of their own inventory, but that was stopped years ago. The selection turned crappy for a while, but it seems to be changing a little but for the better now

They way walmart does it is if your in a major fishing town and close to the lake they will usually offer a better selection. Ie Guntersville, Ky Lake etc etc. So not all stores are going to have a great selection...

Last time i was in the fishing section at the super walmart by me it was late summer and i bought a Lucky Strike spinner , Booyah spinners (garbage skirts don't stay on) , Strike King Shim-e-sticks , Gamakatsu ewg hooks . They had an assortment of Yum plastics on the shelves , and i think they were selling Berkley rods and combos

Re: Wal-Mart improving quality of their fishing tackle?? (Altro Cat)

I think it goes by the fishing department or outdoors department manager. At my local Walmart, we used to have an awesome manager in that department, he had the fishing section stocked with a huge variety of good fishing gear. That was about 10 years ago, and ever since then, this same old dude has been there, and I don't think he has a f***ing clue as to what fishing is. Nothing but a few little kids combo rod/reels, and the crappiest lure selection you've ever seen.

I have no clue what Walmart has here. I've not been in the store. The last time I was in a Walmart was last July down in Gulf Shores, Alabama, buying some groceries. I've not had the Walmart experience since then.

Good to know I'll need to check out the fishing department. Still it's a great place to curse for some hottie's.

Saw a KVD 7'11" cranker in a local wal mart here, as well as some other quality rods, they should stock better stuff since they are a major tournament sponsor.
