    Etec 40

    Model E40DPLSDA, Serial # 5135845

I started reading here when I was considering repowering with the Etec, but once I bought I never thought I'd have to post! I love the motor, but this weekend had a small problem. The motor has about five hours on it. The motor started right up, everything seemed normal, and I back away from the bank. However, when I put it in forward, all I could get was idle speed, there was no throttle response. I loaded it back up and took it to the dealer. The engine report said it had a code 21, auto-winterization activated, as both a stored and persistent engine fault. I never lifted the warm up lever, there were no flashing lights on the check gauge, so my questions are why did this happen and, if I had let the motor do it's winterization thing and then restarted it would I have been good to go or did I have to go to the dealer to get the code cleared?

Also, is there a reason the EMM could be under-recording RPM's? The report says my max RPM's are 5203, but I have GPS'ed speeds between 32 and 33 with a 17 pitch prop which would require greater than 100% efficiency which I know is not possible. My dash tach reads just a shade under 6000 at WOT which gives me a more realistic low 90's efficiency.

    Thanks for your help!

    Re: Etec 40 (PhilS)

THe problem with electronics they can have a mind of there own sometimes. It was probley just a one time system glitch. I have never heard of this problem so I would not worry about it unless it happens again. One thing to check with weird problems like this is be sure your battery connections are tight with no wing nuts. Locknuts only. As for your tach. did the dealer test it to see if it reading right. IF you getting that many rpms I would go up in pitch. I see your in PA. I went to high school in your neighborhood. What dealer are you using there??

    Re: Etec 40 (johnrude)

Johnrude, I'm using Dave's Sports Shop in Doylestown. I bought the boat there and have been going back ever since. I like dealing with a smaller, local guy and I get quick service, but not being a motor head myself I'm not sure how good a wrench Bob really is. Of course, I've been lucky to never have a serious problem!

As for the RPM's, we didn't test the tach. How do you do that? To me, the boat performance is impressive and as I said the motor has to be turning more than 5200 RPM based on my GPS speed. If the tach is right, I agree a 19 pitch would be the ticket. Thanks for your input!

I dont know Daves up there. Im sure he will figure it out for you. WIth the software he can make the tack read 2000rpm and it should match up with the software.
