#7 Ohio State 1968, Beat #1 Purdue 13-0, beat USC 27-16 with Heisman OJ Simpson.
#6 Nebraska 1995, Known as one of most Dominant Defenses of the Decade with a National title that year against a Gunning Florida Gators team. Secondary was unmatched and with Lineman Peter & LB Grant Wistrom, there was no Denying them the title holding Florida's high scoring team to 24 points.
#5 Oklahoma 1974, 11-0 and was Nationa only unbeaten team defeating a then 10-1 USC team that was picked to win the title mid season with there steller Offense. Held Texas to 13 points & no other teram came close to score 2 touchdowns with 3 shutouts....63-0 outscoring in 2 of them and 72-3 to Utah. Lee Roy Selmon would be #1 draft pick in 1976 & brother Dewey lead way upfront.
#4 Alabama 1992, Best known for the 34-13 dismantling of unbeaten defending national champion Miami at the Sugar Bowl & DB Teague stripping ball from Lamar Thomas. With a 13-0 record and holding Opponents to an average of 1.67 rushing yards per attempt.
#3 Nebraska 1971, husker vs Sooners for game of the Century. Score was 35-31 which was the most allowed all season to any team, including that of Alabama whoch only scored 6 points in Orange bowl and National title was at hand. Overall, they allowed more than seven points only three times all season. The defensive line, led by Rich Glover and Larry Jacobson.
#2 Syracuse 1959, numbers are all you need. 5 Shutouts, Limited a then HOT kansas team to only 30 snaps in the game. Boston Univ helf to 25 total offensive yards & only 193 rushing yards allowed in 10 regular season games......59 points totoal allowed all season & beat Texas 23-14 @ Cotton bowl for 11-0 season & National Title.
#1 Alabama 1961, The Crimson Tide allowed just 22 points in 10 regular-season games and rolled into the Sugar Bowl with a streak of five consecutive shutouts. That was halted  barely. Alabama defeated Arkansas 10-3 to complete its unbeaten season. Razorbacks wide receiver Lance Alworth, one of the best pass-catchers in college football history, was stymied by AlabamaÂs defense, led by linebacker Lee Roy Jordan.
