    Lake MacBride....

Sucked. Terrible conditions. Cold front, cold rain, cold water. VERY TOUGH bite. First time I've been on that lake this year as I had no time to prefish for the tournament. Just fished "history". Hit every spot I've ever taken keeper fish. Spinnerbaits for the large mouth, and crankbaits for the Kentucky Spots. Managed a bunch of spots in the 14" range but couldn't find any keepers. Did manage to boat three keeper largemouth though for 5.9 lbs which was actually enough to win the tourney. Second place was 1.84.... yeah, it was that tough. Shook off some early bad luck too. Lost my first keeper sized bass, then me and my partner simultaneously lost keepers when our baits broke (chatter bait come apart at the blade and my spinnerbait broke at the arm). Stuck with it though and picked up two over 2 lbs at the very end to seal the win. Did catch a small smallmouth which was a surprise as I never knew there were any in there. Glad I got that out of the way.... sure ain't going back

Smallies? I would be nice if there would be a bunch of them in there.

    Congrats on the finishes though.

That is the only smallmouth I've ever caught in there. Actually, I've NEVER heard of any smallies ever being caught in MacBride.

Me neither. You are the first I have heard of catching any.

I think that lake would be just fine for smallies. Plenty deep water...clear and rocky. Would love to be able to catch all 3 in in that place.

Brushy Creek is the same type of water. Deep, plenty of rock, clear... all the ingredients. They were stocked in there as well. Caught some beauties in there when we first started fishing it YEARS ago. haven't seen one since. Not sure why they take to certain lakes and not others.

you can guarantee those smallies got stuck in there during the flood of '08 or whatever year that was. Good job. I'm definitely not impressed with that lake at all.

We talked about that after the tourny. With the spillway being topped, anything in the Iowa River had access to MacBride. I've had some decent days on MacBride. But I have never been able to piece together a pattern. The fish seem to always be scattered with no rhyme or reason as to what they're biting or doing. Strange lake if you ask me.

Im not a fan of MacBride either. Never had a "good" day there. Everything hit or miss. No patterns at all there.

Had an open there early this year. Caught fish in the coldest water around...the stuff 10* warmer in protected areas had no fish...weird to me.

    Beautiful lake though...

Go for it. I think over half the houses on that lake have For Sale signs on them. Some have had the same For Sale sign for years.

You need to thank God for that! If I had your money I'd burn mine! Although, I don't think 3 quarters, a dime and seven pennies would create much of a fire

And if I could afford a house on that lake.... I still wouldn't buy a house on that lake!
