2007 Merc 4-stroke cuts out while throttling down??

Like the title of the thread says:

2007 Merc 4-stroke cuts out while throttling down??

It's mated to a 2007 crestliner FishHawk with Merc Monitor that I purchased from EuropeanAM.

Has almost caused me some serious trouble while pulling into dock, pull back the throttle to go into reverse and it cuts out...and I'm coasting into the dock!!

I've managed to start it right back up and be OK.

Not sue if it's just a little screw holding the thottle open at idle or does this require update via the computer. Help would be great. Thanks

Re: 2007 Merc 4-stroke cuts out while throttling down?? (Desrosiers)

I got a 09 25 horse efi and mine does the exact same thing on occassion. As soon as I throttle down it idles for a couple seconds then dies. I think I read somewhere that it has something to do with the computer mapping. Don will be along shortly to give us some more insight...

TWO things we see that contibute to this:

    1. Restricted injectors (or improper fuel pressure). Verify fuel pressure... if it's within spec at all RPM's, strongly consider having the injectors CLEANED and FLOW TESTED. We can assist with this: http://www.europeanmarine.org/injectorservice.html

    2. Improperly set throttle plate, worn throttle plate, or faulty TPS. IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT attempt to adjust this yourself. Proper adjustment REQUIRES use of the Computer Diagnostic System, while monitoring TPS VOLTAGE, and IAC DUTY CYCLE. Proper IAC duty cycle is 30-40% at idle (when improperly set... the IAC Duty Cycle will likely be "fixed" at 9-14% and seldom moves).

In regards to #2.... tech's must remember that the key MUST be cycled "OFF-ON-START" after EVERY adjustment. This is due to the fact that the PCM "learns" the TPS IDLE position at each key-up or engine start (and must relearn the "adjusted" position).

I finally brought this into the shop last week (was able to use it this spring, but throttle still cut out).

It happens to be the computer for the engine is defective! My motor is two years out of warrantly but because the motor only had 95hrs on it (yea..I got to get out fishing more..) Mercury sent a new one at no cost and will be good to go.

Definately a weird thing to happen..but all well in the end.

Much more likely that it was a defective CALIBRATION.

Glad to hear they got you straightened out.
