    Help with Idle

I have a question. My engine is a 2003 Evinrude 200 and where i fish i do a lot of ideling and very little on pad running of the big engine. Is there any precautions that i may need to be aware of because of so much slow speed rpm's. Will this harm the engine with so much of the big engine time being at not much more than a idle. Thanks guys.

I would suggest you run XD-100 oil and be ready to buy some spark plugs due to the prolonged idle.

I use the xd-100 and will not go back, even tho the xd-50 is a great oil. With the 100 I don't worry about decarb or no oil alarms in the winter.
For plugs, Try http://www.sparkplugs.com/ Usually half price which helps, my dealer wants 11.00 + for em.

First of all, check or have a knowledgeable person check the cylinder head temps after about 5 minutes of idle. IF they are below 130°. remove and test the thermostats. If it still is below that temp, then replace the pressure relief valve as it is probably leaking internally and bypassing the thermostats.

The engine has to idle at the correct temp. You may also have to regap the plugs about 40-50 hours if the motor spends around 75% of its time at idle.

I've seen sheriff's boats with over 1000 hours on them with 85% below 1000 rpm while they wait for speeders in no wake zones. They get around 80-100 hours on the plugs as long as they are regapped around mid life.

Thanks for the advice Mike and Seahorse. I will follow both recommendations.
