I fish the Saline River a lot during the summer...it's a blast. You can throw nothing but topwater and catch them all day long...either smallies or largemouth or spots...
where to start, crooked creek, current river, eleven point, spring river, strawberrry river and the list goes on and on!! they are all loaded with hungry bassi'd rather catch a 3lb smallie in current as a 7lb lm out of a lake
i usually start hitting the the creeks and rivers in late april. usually catch more numbers in the summer but bigger fish have always came in the late spring time
SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhh not everybody knows about the Eleven point, and I would NEVER put in at Woody's and float down to the highway 90 bridge throwing a white spinnerbait with one gold and one silver blade they just won't hit it at all.![]()

I need to get back to doing this:
In the summer, I'd leave in the morning with an ultralight in the back of the truck (jeans, tennyshoes, no socks) and jeans and shoes a MUST.
Ultralight, small craw colored zoom tube, 1/8oz tube head, several 1/8oz rooster tails, one tiny spook, and a few of the Very Tiny bomber crankbaits.
I'd just drive up in the mountains and stop at any bride with a creek under it. Wade it a few hundred yards either direction. Take any county dirt road and do the same. (Arkansas Atlas Gazzetter helps).
Spend the whole day doing that and I cannot remember a day I didn't catch more brownies than I can count. Big perch also.
Just remember, if doing this in the summer, DO not get caught having to WADE to get back to your truck right at or after dark.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........
i mainly did the stop at a bridge thing last year. any other ideas on baits and line to throw?
We slammed them on the Buffalo on nothing but Shakey heads, caught dozens of smallies up there..

Hope to get to do some creek fishing this year for sureI have always wanted to and now ya'll have ignited the fire once again
thanks for the tips also
Life is made up of years that mean nothing, and moments that mean it all!!!!!!!!
I actually don't see much need in anything more than an ultralight, 4lbs test, 1/8oz tube head, and a 3" long brownish looking tube.
Unless....you want to go a bit heavier on everything.
I'm always just piddling around when creek fishing and if you can catch a big brown trout with the same rod/line....it'll catch 4lb smallies if you happen to run into one.
You just can't horse em in, but, why would ya want to? It's a creek, it's for a day of... complete lack of any pressure.
So what if one gets the best of you. It's not like you needed that fish for anything.
I think the new secret color is "A-Rig"..........

would anyone be interested in trying to set a weekend to head up to the hills and get a crew together? i was thinking around the 1st week in May. there is a big rod sale up there around that time as well. anyone interested?
Yea Mark don't do that float you won't like it at all. Another thing I would never do is float the buffalo around the Carver area throwing a watermelon red flake Zoom lil critter craw on a 1/8 to 1/4 jig head, in the pockets behind rocks and logs. Not a good idea to do that either.

Man, guys I need to get plugged into the river fishing seen. Got me a fishing kayak (Native Ultimate), does anyone want to float the Saline sometime? PM if so.
We hit the creeks every spring/summer. Throw anything that looks like a mudbug.
