What should we be doing and putting in our tanks to help prevent these ethanol and mtbe's fuels from causing any damage and prolong the life of the fuel to keep it fresh?
How often do we be doing it?

I'd like to know also. I understand it is responsible for causing condensation/water in your tank? Hawk300
Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the pump. Here in Missouri we have had 10%ethanol in our fuel for the better part of a year. So far I have seen no major problems, but we install 10 micron filters in every job that comes thru our shop. Yamaha has stated that 10% should not be a problem but more than that does create problems with water contamination. Although we recommend Seafoam and Ring Free, they really don't do anything to large amounts of ethanol. You can buy (pretty reasonabily) a test tube to check amount of ethonol in fuel. here is one site http://www.fuel-testers.com/pr....html
I have been putting ring free and stabil marine formula for ethanol, my engine is new and i havent added the 10 micron filter yet, i guess this should be added to help. This micron filter should be standard when you buy a yamaha, i hate when you as a consumer have to spend extra money to do what the manufactuer should be doing anyway, they knew this ethanol crap was effecting there engines...
What about Pri-G gas treatment. Supposed to solve all your problems better than Stabil.
what is pri-g gas treatment, why is it better than stabil?
Never used either one?? Keep in mind that there is a difference between fuel stabilizer and fuel cleaner. You want to use one that will attack moisture in your fuel. Ethanol pulls moisture out of the air. Alot of fuel additives are alcohol derived and will only encourage more moisture in fuel. Make sure your additive is doing what you intend it to do![]()

Anybody besides me using this stuff? Any pro's or con's about this product?

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!
wayne, that is why i am using the Stabil marine formula, it states it is made for ethanol fuels, i assume it was designed to keep the gas from breaking down into or separating into water..is this not correct? should i be using something different? What do you recommend?
I used sta-bil years and always had good results. I am brainwashed with sticking with OEM products because they build engines and have to stand behind them. I also know that when I worked for Yamaha as a applications engineer that we paid research labs to come up with products that did their jobs. The ethanol thing is a modern day thing that we have to be extra careful about ( as mentioned in previous threads).
What would you recommend with my 250 Yamaha HPDI. i should be using to protect engine from these fuels...What is OEM?
Oem (original equipment manufacture). Yamaha makes a fuel conditioner like sta-bil, seafoam. It is designed to break down the water that may be in the fuel into tiny bubbles so they will be easier to pass thru the fuel delivery system. Sta-bil, Seafoam will do this as well. Some additives have some octane booster in them and I don't recommend them because most octane boosters are alcohol derived and since alcohol attracts water from the air, I am of the opinion that just compounds the reason you are adding the products!!!!!!!
The truth is......we are at the mercy of the pump!!!!!!!! There is no real magic formula to add to fuel. The best thing that you can do is install a 10 micron water seperating filter and try to buy your gas at the same pump!!!! Sorry!
Thats alright , thanks for your input and advice...I guess it is a crap shoot anyway...just keep trying to keep fresh fuel in tank as best i can...
WAYNE, I think my skeeter came with the micron filter in it (07) , dont most boats now days come with em already ?
