Changing Water Pump

For all of you who change your own, do you just change the impeller or do you change the whole pump? I have a 2011 200 HP ox66 and have never changed a water pump before, but would like to give it a go. I was also wondering if anyone knows the part number for what I need, and possibly a how-to. Thank you.

Look up above this post at the "Repair Stuff" post pinned to the top of this board. It has good pictures and should be a big help to you. I'd suggest getting the kit and doing everything.

The second entry in the repair tips sticky is a link to doing this on a Merc, very similar to the Yamaha. Pay attention to what it says about aligning the shift rod and the drive shaft when reinstalling the LU. Personally, I prefer to put the engine in gear before I start and am careful not to change it at the LU as I work. When reinstalling, I can hold the LU in position with one hand and wiggle the prop with the other to wiggle the drive shaft into alignment.

Be sure to torque the bolts correctly at the WP (get an inch-pound torque wrench) and where the LU bolts to the motor.

If you will do your own routine maintenance and simple repairs, a Yamaha Service Manual is a good investment.
