What do you consider high hours on a motor?

Well my last one is about to finish H.S and funds seem to be a little better, so I was thinking about up grading to a rig with a 150. Don't really want anything over 175 hp.

What do you fellas consider high hours on a motor. I have a 2008 yamaha with about 50 to 60 hours on it.
    Yes, I know I don't fish enough.

Do you think guys with high performance rigs run a lot of hours.

I know some of you fish every weekend or once a week. How far do you run for just a normal fishing trip..
I am hoping to start fishing more, but thing are a little crazy right now with mom
    and everything.

Guess it depends how old the motor is as well, but to me if it had 400+ hrs on it, i would call that high. If you're able just buy a new one and you will have warranty. Yamaha makes a sweet 4 stroke 150, check it out when you start looking.

I can show you a pair of 5 year old mercies with 1800 hours on them never been touched except routine maint. Depends on who had it. How cared for, and if it was a good one or a bad one. Most pros boats get 4-600 hours in a year. Most guides as well. One thing to look at is if a motors 5 years old with only 100 hours WHY? Maybe it lived in the shop. Get serial number , check warranty history, run compression check, have diagnostics run on laptop.

I agree with Doug. There are 2 kinds of outboards, ones that have blown and those fixing to blow.

Re: What do you consider high hours on a motor? (Rebel1)

I read about a pair of 250 ox66s with over 2000hrs on an offshore guide boat. My last motor was a Merc 200XRi, it was a 91 model that got used HARD and didnt pop till 2009! That was a good motor! My curren 98 Hammer still rollin strong but im pretty sure it dont even have 400hrs on it cause i know who had it forever! In my opinion, when you get a good one you GOT a good one, nomatter what brand

Thats cuz the Yankees have to lock theirs up for 5 months a year

Take them out of the average and you will see 150hrs a year average

I have a friend and she guides on Big Lake. She had an '02(or around there) Suzuki 4 stroke. She had over 4000 hrs when she got rid of it.
    I think mine had between 500 & 600 hrs, but it's an '02.

    See I knew it!

If I were not so lazy I would have some blue ones in my rod lockers and compartments.

I could probably use the existing wiring from my current lights I would imagine right?
