Need to buy a new laptop. I have Quickbooks on this one and need it on the new one. I have also used all the downloads from the disc putting it on my wife's and son's laptop. Is there a way to transfer it from this computer to a new one??

With Quickbooks you should be able to just install the QB program on the new computer and restore the data with your backup disc.
I downloaded it four times and I think I am out of downloads. If I have to buy a new one, I don't want to lose my business checkbook info.
Simple start. Cheapest one they make. It does enough for what I do
If you order a computer from Dell etc., you may be able to get that program thrown in the deal and it will be ready to go when you get it. We had a few issues moving QB in the past but we use it for everything. I'm sure one of the guru's could talk you through moving it.
Barry we use QB and have a 5 seat license. We simply install the software on the new machine let it get it's updates and then import the back up file.
is the old laptop still functional?
I don't have Quicken or Quickbooks myself, but I have played with it on my brother's PC's at the farm.
If I remember correctly, you can save your current info as an .iif faile by exporting it to a flash drive.
Once you load your new copy of quickbooks to your new laptop, you can then import it form the flashdrive.
Cory, he has a download version, no cd to install and thinks he can't download again. Think he's trying to figure out if he can move the whole program over. Years ago we used to do this with laplink. Don't know what is used now. With that small program he can probably just share it and move it over, then create a new shortcut. We moved QB from different computers and always seem to have a glitch or 2 that have to be worked out.
A phone call to QB should resolve the problem.
Also, if the new computer is windows 7 he may have to call the Governor to get the permissions straight. I'm pretty sure it will ask for a disk or validation code even if you can move it.

I know.. but he asked that if he has to purchase a new one, can he get his old info back.. the answer is yes, by exporting the account and then importing the account.
If you use a program like laplink, the reason why you have those glitches is because the windows registry doesn't know where to find all the pieces parts or the program.
And Mark's suggestion may be the thing to do.. I know I have called Microsoft when I have built a new PC and they alwasy give me a new code to use. I don't see why Intuit would be any different.
I was wanting to know if I could move the whole program. The geek at Best Buy ansered my question. NO Gonna install Quickbooks in the new computer and go from there. Bought me a Toshiba.
Yes. He knows more about computers than I do. If there isn't a picture of a nekkid woman attachecd to it, I can't find it. Turns out he knew what he was talking about. Used the disc to load the program. Saved the infoe from the old computer and loaded it on the new one and it worked.![]()
Use Laplink. It is a good program. That is what I used to copy everything from old to new. It takes a good while to do it but It works great. I never had any problem with my computer at all.
