to slow down or not slow down.. that is the question..

I know we already have a thread regarding this, but let's remember that it was not so long ago (2007) that G-man got DQ'd from the Classic for "Unsafe Boating"

Here's an article regarding it... with video from the photographer that lodged the complaint.

Rather them go by on plane if there is enough room than idleing with a huge wake.

I was Watchin when GMan did that, and that was pretty Stupid! I say haul azz by, but if you close enough to splash water on em, You are way too close and being dangerous! A little common sense goes a long way, Im always careful, Id hate to skip or hop into another boat in my Skidder!

It's really a judgement call, no real good clear cut answer. But sometimes I have blown past people because they were near a curve or the sun was behind them or whatever. And I would have set it down too late so..

I like G-Man, but, that was close. I doubt he was 5 ft away from the camera boat. Look at the center of his wake as he goes by. Also, if you remember, the year before he was part of the group that rescued a boater that had his steering fail, causing the boat to run up on the bank. That could have been a possibility and always is. One small bolt keeping everything pointed the right direction.

Craig, my buddy running the camera boat got wet when Swindle came thru. Ken said he could have stepped over in Swindle's boat.

Re: to slow down or not slow down.. that is the question.. (craigs06)

Another reason that I dont like to stop for every boat fishing ( like i said , if there at safe distance ) , is because of GAS !!!!!!! Man , I went down big pigeon one morning and had to stop every 100 ft !!!!!! Man talk about drink some gas when theres a damn boat around every bend !!!!!!!!!
Another Thing I think I should say is , the only time Ill do a fly by on someone is if there in a main canal !!!!!! I wont do it if there off the beaten path !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If in a narrow canal I think you should slow down but not 20 yards from the other guys boat were you plow a big azz wake into them. I absolutley get pissed when someone does this and it happens often. If in a main canal I dont see the point in slowing down. I think its pretty much a situational judgement call..

Yep, that's how it looked to me. He was close. If any of us were stopped or running and a boat came by that close, I bet there would be some hard time for somebody. I agree with the DQ. JMO

Main canal that has alotta of traffic and is wide I stay on plane. Not a main canal that is usually a lil more narrow I slow down to idle - which means NOT plowing by 1/2 way on plane. I prolly slow down to idle 99% of the time.
