    Meat question

A guy at the camp shot a doe Friday evening just before dark. I helped him look for it until 10 pm. He went back the next morning and found it about 9 am. Something had started eating one of the hind quarters and the damage was so bad, he threw that hind quarter out. Is that deer good to eat or if he offers me sausage, should I decline? I am inclined to decline.

Definately not good any more. Temp has to at least be in the 40's for a deer to sit all night.

    Not good.

If he offers, take it and give it to someone you don't like.

    Re: Meat question (BARRY J)

If you think about aged beef, you know, the one you get at those expensive steak houses and how it's aged, it's hard to worry about beef spoiling overnight unless it's gut shot or it's really hot outside. Given the body temp of a deer and how long it takes to cool down to ambient letting that deer set overnight wouldn't bother me.

I wouldn't like the fact that something was eating off of it, rabies or other things one could catch.

I have no problem with that as long as I'm the one that hit it! Might as well get something out the deal for the damage to my vehicle!
