My B in law did mine I thing it was 30.00 for the impeller and I gave him a 20 for doing it. At a shop??? It's not a difficult job. Somebody may have step by step instructions. Try searching for it.

I take mine to the shop to have it done, since I'm not much of a mechanic. For the impeller change and LU oil change, I pay like 110-120 depending on which service department.

Should be 1 hour shop time, plus parts...Shop rates vary, but parts should be around 40.00 or so...

I did some checking, the closest marine place (45 minutes) is Mercury certified and said they won't work on ANY Yamahas (they must be doing well and not need the business). The closest Yamaha certified shop is about 2 hours and they said I have to drop the boat off and it will then be put into the "repair cycle" (they won't make appointments) and they are currently 2 weeks turn around time. I watched several Youtube videos as well as read ALOT of posts on BBC and I think I will try to tackle it myself. I do look forward to doing projects at home and think of it as a challenge.
    thanks for all the help.

It is a easy job. 8 bolts and it will drop out. Leave the gear shift in neutral and don't move the little shift lever when you get it out. Look at the pictures of it that is stuck above and you will be fine. When going back in, have someone guide the shift lever sleeve onto the little shift lever and shove it in. You might have to have someone to turn the flywheel a little bit to line up the drive shaft splines to the motor. Just not a hard job if you are just a little mechanical incline. Here are the pictures. IM me if you have problems.

    Re: (Elkhunter)

Replaced the impeller today. A little piece was broken off and the impeller blades were "lop sided", one side of the ears were bent more than the others. Also when I took it out, the cup came out with the housing, then I had to take the ring and compression ring off, so not sure if someone had put it on wrong. I had ordered the kit. The woodruff key was in there "good", I opted not to pound on it and take it out. I cleaned the bottom plate real well. I actually had to put the impeller in the cup then slide it on. Had to turn the fly wheel a little to get it aligned up. Pretty easy job though. It tested well on the muffs, I will take it out this evening for a double check. Thanks to all who posted tips.
