    1999 225 Evinrude Ficht HELP!!!!

Got something wierd going on here. Yesterday in preparation to go fishing today I cranked up my motor with no problem with rabbit ears on. Today I get ready to go, all batteries charged get down to the ramp and the motor will turn over but will not fire off. I had this problem last week at the ramp but it fired off after about 5 mins of cranking it. Today it did not start at all but again yesterday it fired right off sitting here in my yard. Anybody got any suggestions as to what it might be? Fuel bulb is tight and battery is good. HELP!!!! It is 65 degrees here today!

Pull the cowl off and pull your plugs. You don't say when the last time was you changed them but DI motors are tough on plugs. If you need to replace them then index them on installation. I would also check the kill switch. Pull the fork off and see if the plunger moves freely reattach it and it should fire off. Just a place to start.

Got it running......I think it may have been a air bubble in the line or something because I drained the fuel filter (no trash or water) and put the same one back on. Turned the key after priming bulb and it fired right off. Thought my 99 ficht might be letting me down....

It might also be that, while your battery is fresh off a charge at the house, it could draw down just enough to insufficient to fire the motor at the ramp. I can't recall the minimum CCA required, but I want to say it's at least 700 CCAs. One of the mods would probably know this one. May I suggest cleaning the terminals and ensuring that you use Nylocs instead of the wingnuts.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: 1999 225 Evinrude Ficht HELP!!!! (MigAz)

My battery is 800 CCA's and I have nylocks on my terminals now. I did have to add water to my battery today and i hooked my 3 bank back up for a bit while I emptied the fuel filter and put it back on. I swear it was like there was air in the fuel line. Probably wasnt but it sure did seem wierd.

One other question and I am sure it is a dumb one but what is the purpose of the hose that runs down into the fuel filter with the two wire tips?

If I understand you correctly, I believe it's the water sensor probes. If water is detected here, it will trip a code.

So those tubes with the wire tips coming out would stop the motor from firing off? If that is the case what should I do to get any water that may be in the tank out? The boat I think may have sat at the dealership that I got it from for 4 or 5 months maybe 6.

I don't know if it will not allow the motor to fire. It should say in the service manual. Do you have one?

I have one laying around from a '99 I used to own and can't find it. If I find it, I'll let you what it says. Sorry that doesn't solve your problem now.

The fuel filter sensor will not keep the motor from starting.
