Just wondering what happens when you hit your rev limiter. I just had a phase II kit installed and I think I 'm hitting the limiter. What is the signs of the limiter?
by the way its a 200 hpdi

These things has a very soft limiter. You just get to 6150 and thats it.
The best thing that I did to mine was add it to my NMEA 2000 network. Now I get all my alarms on my gps. A small pop up screen that tell you what is happening. So far I have seen the limiter, and overheat alarm pop up. Takes the guess work out of wondering whats alarming.
I hit it a couple times on a couple motors at work until we got them propped right. The engine RPM's will drop by a few hundred. I explain it like a ball bouncing off a wall. The RPM's bounce off, rev up again, and bounce off.

I have been on my limiter 30 times now and have not experienced anything like what you are describing.
I have seen the mercury do that but not the HPDI's.
I had the same rev up then down up then down this weekend it didn't happen everytime I ran wide open, it happened when I was at the top of my rpms and running at the highest mph I've ever seen out of my rig. I assumed this was the rev limiter because it seemed as if it would shut me down and when my tach (I have just a standard dash tach) would start to come back down then I would get a burst of rpms and it was off to the races for a few seconds and then back down.
What are the signs you have seen when you hit the rev limiter? are should I say how did you know you hit the rev limiter. Like I stated I have a standard tac and I know the rev limiter is set at 6150 but I have never had my tac read more than 6000 but its like it's stuck there when this happened could my tac be off?"
Mine was on 4 strokes, maybe it's different than an HPDI.

Conner, the motor just holds it there? If the rpm's bounce you could bow hook in your boat am I correct? Enrico

Enrico in some boats you could hook but not the stroker but that is another story!![]()
What happens with the hpdi is it drops a cylinder and cuts fuel and timing, or like you said it just kind of holds it there.
What does the 3.1 225efi do as it hit the limiter?
Don't know never run a hammer efi.
I was wondering because I'm running a phase II and my skeeter is at the shop now getting a hpdi lower unit installed. With the efi lower I was running 5850 rpms with a 27 tempest+. When I get it back I was thinking about putting a light weight flywheel on it with a 26 tempest+. And I was wondering what to expect if the flywheel let it hit the limiter. Also do you think I could turn the 27 with a light weight flywheel? Thanks
The light flywheel will help on hole shot and do very little if any thing for top. If all you can turn is 5800 I would drop to the 26 and may have it worked by Mark. You will be closer to 6100 and much better hole shot. The 27 should be a little faster on top but not very much but then that is just a guess.
What are you using for a display? I was considering connecting my VZ200TLR and was wondering if I could use my Lowrance 520 to display the engine information. Any idea what info I would be able to see?
Not sure just what you will see other then any alarm from the motor on the 520 because I am using LMF-400.
If yours is newer then 2005 you will get water pressure, engine temp, fuel flow, trim, rpms, engine hours, volts, high pressure fuel pump and med pressure fuel if the motor has not been run and the key is on but once you start the motor you will have the high pressure.
Now all this is on the LMF-400 and I am pretty sure that the 520 will display some of this but not 100% sure just what you will see other then the alarms. Which include, over rev, over heat, and check engine. I have see all three and they may be more.
